Zach Wilson reportedly spotted working with the starters at Broncos OTAs as the No.1 quarterback over Bo Nix

Although Zach Wilson is being appreciated for his arm strength, his overall performance in Denver’s OTAs is labeled as inconsistent.

Currently, there are a lot of uncertainties surrounding the starting quarterback position in the Denver Broncos, as Bo Nix, Zach Wilson, and Jarrett Stidham– all three are competing for it. Even though the rookie quarterback Nix is favored, the franchise is giving fair opportunity to prove their capabilities to become the QB No. 1.

Recently local reporters spotted Wilson with the starting offense over the tenth overall 2024 draft pick on the third day of the team’s OTAs. However, the former New York Jets QB was said looking “rattled” as he struggled to find a rhythm with the first team, as reported by The Denver Post

Wilson in the Broncos’ practice sessions reminds one a lot about his days in the Jets. He initially did well but began struggling to coordinate with the starters. On the third day, he ended up with an intercepted by safety P.J. Locke after he couldn’t handle the corner blitz from Ja’Quan McMillian before throwing the ball.

Moreover, Wilson is immensely struggling with his pass attempts as he threw a ball beyond Marvin Mims Jr. on deep routes, failed to connect with running back Javonte Williams on a short pass, and saw his throw to Brandon Johnson disrupted by Damarri Mathis’s defensive play.

Although the quarterback is being appreciated for his arm strength, his overall performance in Denver’s OTAs is labeled as inconsistent, which increases the odds for Nix to take over.

Sean Payton revealed why Denver took a chance at Zach Wilson

When the Jets enlisted Wilson for trade, they hardly received any good offers whatsoever, so when the Broncos picked him after letting go of nine-time Pro Bowler Russell Wilson, it raised some eyebrows. But finally, Denver’s second-year head coach Sean Payton answered the most anticipated question.

We just felt like, ‘Man, we’d love to work with this guy.’ It wasn’t too long ago we remembered grading him. [We] felt the investment was worth it relative to his skill set and his talent. So it took a while. We spent the better part of a month and a half working on that trade.
Sean Payton told the reporters

Despite Wilson’s reputation as one of the league’s worst quarterbacks, the Broncos focused on the positive parts. They were also impressed with his ability to pick up the offense.
