Lizzy Martinez and Zay Gonzalez welcomed a baby boy less than a month ago. Since then, Zane replaced injured Austin Seibert as the Washington Commanders’ starting kicker and his field goal recently sent the franchise from the nation’s capital into the divisional playoff final by defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, who completed 24 passes and threw two touchdowns, led the Commanders inside the Buccaneers’ 40-yard line to set up a field goal attempt for Gonzalez. The 29-year-old hit the ball, which doinked from the goal post and went in. It finished Commanders 23-20 Buccaneers.
Moments such as these come once in a lifetime, especially for a kicker who had been bouncing around from team to team and only played because of Seibert’s injury. His wife Lizzy cheered for him and provided him hope and confidence every step of the way.

It’s unclear where Martinez was born, but according to her Facebook profile, Martinez is a native of LaPorte, Texas. She completed her schooling at Deer Park High School and then attended the University of San Antonio in Texas. However, there’s no information on which stream she graduated from.

Once again, there’s little information about how they first met, but there’s always the option of an educated guess. Based on the information available, the pair have known each other since their high school days because Zane, like Lizzy, attended Deer Park High School.
The earliest available photo on social media is a dashcam shot of Zane and Lizzy that dates back to 2016—the same year Gonzalez graduated from Arizona State University (played for their college team, the Sundevils). So, they have at least been together for close to a decade.
Martinez prefers keeping her love life quite private, but there are a few photos with Gonzalez. The pair first appeared together on the app when Zane was part of the Carolina Panthers‘ injured reserve list. The Panthers traded him to the San Francisco 49ers in March 2023, but he was released in September.
The Commanders signed him to their practice squad in November 2024 and elevated him several times before giving him a chance in place of injured Seibert. An ESPN report revealed that Gonzalez missed a practice session for the birth of his first child with Lizzy Martinez.

She can easily transition into one.
