The NASCAR garage is one of the most intense places there is in terms of competition with teams and drivers doing everything they can get an advantage of each other’s. But things get complicated when everyone of them has to spend 38 weeks on the road together and that makes relationships complicated.

This makes it hard to remains either friends or foes on the track. Ex-Truck Series champion and Cup driver Zane Smith has talked about this complexity recently. He admitted that it hard to remain friends in the garage and feels everyone has similar mind-set on it. But they always try to make sure their rivalry remains strictly on the track.

It’s hard to have friends in this industry. But fortunately, we do have a friend group that has a similar mindset of, hey, let’s leave everything on the track, and that’s work. Be mad at each other on the track, but put it behind you and move forward come the next week.

While further talking about the point, Smith pointed out that being adults they hush the incidents on the track over. At the end of the day, they spend time together after races and have fun with their friends.

We’re adults. We can hash it out or whatnot. But it’s definitely fun to have a few beers and hang out after races with a group of friends.

In the same discussion, Smith pointed out that when he races his friends on the track, he becomes more aggressive. It seems they have this freedom between them to have tough battles and easily get over it, unlike when they are racing other drivers.

No chance. I can promise you, we race each other harder. I can think off the top of my head the amount of times me and Todd Gilliland have ran into each other, me and Noah having our fight or racing really hard.
