“I blanked out,” Zhang Weili admits to ‘dreaming’ during UFC 300 title fight

Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan put on a show at the co-main event of UFC 300. Both the fighters gave their best for five rounds and kept the fight fans engaged throughout the bout. At the end of a grueling back and forth, it was Weili who was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
After the fight, Zhang Weili was asked about her mindset and the Chinese superstar responded with a unique answer. According to Weili, she thought that she was in a dream and couldn’t figure out what was happening around her.

Going into the fight Weili was the fan favorite and she proved why fight fans have high expectations of her. It was Weili’s second consecutive title since winning it in 2022. With the win, the fighter has solidified herself as one of the best UFC female fighters of all time.
On the other hand, Yan Xiaonan showed incredible determination and went toe to toe with a two-time UFC champion in the high-octane Chinese vs Chinese bout. Even though the fighter lost, the experience and fan following she gathered from the bout is immeasurable.

Early in the fight, both fighters were cautious but towards the end, Zhang Weili was able to get a rear naked choke on Yan Xiaonan. As many viewers expected an end to the fight, the challenger was saved by the bell.
While talking about that particular moment, Weili revealed that she had thought she won but was surprised when heard the bell.

Proving her last record, Yan was aggressive in the stand-up and repeatedly dropped Weili on the canvas. Weili on the other hand, was quite dangerous on the ground due to her wrestling background. She had multiple opportunities to take Yan down and defeat her from the top spot and it was enough to convince the judges for a favorable decision.
