Zidane furious with the referee after a dubious penalty was awarded to Sevilla in 2-2 draw for Real Madrid
Real Madrid went into their fixture against Sevilla knowing that the fate of the title was in their hands. However, with a 2-2 stalemate the power has again shifted onto Atletico Madrid who need to win their remaining matches to be crowned champions.
The 2-2 draw between the two Top 4 sides had plenty of talking points including a major one where Sevilla were awarded a penalty for a Militao handball. The result now leaves Real Madrid in the second place two points behind Atletico Madrid with 3 games remaining in the league.
“I don’t understand the hand-ball rule, they need to explain it to me” said Zidane
Zinedine Zidane who is often a calm figure at the touchline came out after the match and confronted the referee about the decision. Even Toni Kroos, made his anger visible at the referee for the penalty call made by him in favour of Sevilla.
Zidane spoke agitatedly in his post-match press conference against the hand-ball rule which is currently in place.
“I’m very angry,” Zidane told Movistar. “I spoke to the referee to look for an explanation. It’s really complicated because we deserved much more but it is what it is.”
“I don’t understand anything from the referee. If there is a Militao handball, it is Sevilla handball as well.
“I am not convinced by what he told me. I never speak about referees, but today I am angry.
“Don’t ask me any more about this, I’ve already said what I think. They have to explain the handball rules to me and that’s it. We’re going to fight until the end. Until the death.”
