Zinedine Zidane Breathes easy After Real Madrid’s win

Real Madrid got off to a winning start in what is arguably their most important week of the season. They defeated Sevilla 1-0 thanks to an own goal from Sevilla keeper Bounou.

This was the first win for the struggling Madrid side since October, after they lost 2 and drew once in their November fixtures.

Zinedine Zidane happy with the three points against Sevilla

Real Madrid’s breakthrough came in the 56th minute, a goal that was at first credited to Sevilla keeper Bono. The keeper certainly got the last touch but it was Vinicius who diverted Ferland Mendy’s cross to send the ball past the keeper. “It’s my goal,” said the 20-year-old forward. “I have the shot and it goes past the keeper.”

Zidane was however pleased to get the 3 points at the end and credited his side for turning up with the winning mentality which has been symbolic for this side in the past.

They are three very important points,” said Zidane. “It has not been very easy for us during the last three days. “It was important to get the win and now we can rest and prepare for the next game.”

Real Madrid have 2 must-win games coming up this week in Europe and in the League. The Borussia game in particular has been termed by Zidane as an effective finale as they need a win to guarantee qualification into the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The pressure on Zidane has significantly reduced after the win but the results of the upcoming matches might as well decide his future at the club.
