It has been a horrendous 2025-26 campaign for Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Pelicans. But the Pelicans finally put an end to their nine-game losing streak on Friday night. The Pelicans, led by Williamson, recorded a blowout 128-107 victory over the Washington Wizards at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. Both clubs are going through difficult seasons and it was a clash between two struggling sides.
The win improved the Pelicans’ record to 9-31 as they currently sit at 14th in the Western Conference standings. The Wizards have been in the headlines as they recently traded for Trae Young, much to the surprise of many. Young did not make his debut, but the loss would be a setback for the club as they came into the match with five wins in their last eight games. The loss dropped the Wizards to 10-27, placing them at 14th in the Eastern Conference standings.
Zion Williamson is going through a time time both on and off the court as he has been hit with some unverified allegations once again. Injuries have not spared the power forward this season as well he has been restricted to just 24 appearances out of a possible 40. Despite the Pelicans’ horrid campaign, Williamson has still posted fairly decent numbers as he is currently averaging 22.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists.
The 25-year-old’s time with the Pelicans has been anything but fruitful. Williamson was picked as the number one pick in the 2019 NBA draft. Hyped as a huge prospect during the draft, many saw him as the face of the franchise, but injuries, lack of commitment and weight issues have seen Williamson’s career not reach its potential.
For a while now, the two-time All-Star has been rumored to leave the Pelicans. If there is one player who desperately needs a change in scenery, it is Williamson. The Chicago Bulls are one of the clubs who have been rumored to be interested in the former Duke player.
An old video of Williamson having a funny conversation with a Bulls assistant coach has gone viral once again. As the star forward was walking, he greeted the Bull’s staff member, who brought up the big man’s interest in joining the organization. The staffer asked:
Heard you want to play for us?
Williamson was shocked by the question and responded:
Whoa. Don’t say it out loud.
Zion Williamson has wanted to play for the Bulls for a while.

The Bulls would benefit from a player like Williamson on their roster. But the biggest issue with him is his availability, something he has struggled with since his rookie season.
New Orleans Pelicans shut down Zion Williamson’s trade rumors
With the trade deadline less than a month away and some big moves already taking place, there were a lot of reports surrounding that the Pelicans may decide to put Williamson in the market as well. His value has fallen considerably over the years, and it is clear by now that the club cannot count on him to carry and be the face of the franchise anymore.

But NBA Insider Chris Haynes has reported that the club will be sticking with Williamson as they have shut down the trade rumors surrounding the forward and four other players.
New Orleans Pelicans are disappointing the market in informing teams that Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, Derik Queen and Jeremiah Fears will remain with the organization past Feb. 5 trade deadline.

With the trade deadline fast approaching, there would have been clubs interested in the services of Williamson. It’s an incredibly bizarre approach by the Pelicans unless the front office is trying to pressure interested teams to up the ante.
Memphis Grizzlies are open to trading Ja Morant
Another player from the same draft class as Williamson has been made available by his club. It is the number two pick of the 2019 draft, Ja Morant. Morant had a very promising start to his NBA career. Rookie of the Year in 2020, Most Improved Player in 2022 and two NBA All-Star selections, many believed that Morant would carry the Memphis Grizzlies for years to come.
But unfortunately, things have fallen apart since then. Injuries and multiple off-court issues have seen Morant be a shadow of the player he once was. Issues with head coach Tuomas Iisalo made matters worse and further deteriorated their relationship.
NBA reporter for ESPN Shams Charania has reported that the Grizzlies are open to offers for Morant.
Just in: For the first time, the Memphis Grizzlies are entertaining offers to potentially move two-time All-Star Ja Morant ahead of the Feb. 5 NBA trade deadline, sources tell ESPN.

Morant is averaging 19.0 points and 7.6 assists in 28.3 minutes per game this season. A change in scenery would do wonders for the 26-year-old.
