Zidane praises his team’s attitude after ‘tough’ win
Real Madrid secured a hard fought 2-0 victory against Granada at the Alfredo De Stefano. 2nd half goals from midfielder Casemiro and Benzema sealed the victory for Zidane’s side.
Zidane seems to have found the winning formula after his side’s dodgy performances in the initial stages of the season.
Real Madrid are on a 6 match winning streak
The result sees Zidane’s men jointly top the table along wioth city rivals Atletico, who have 2 games in hand. Real Madrid have won 6 games on the trot after losing to Alaves and Shakhtar Donetsk in the same week earlier this season. .
Zidane praised his players’ attitude as well as their work and preparation, which he said have contributed to the turnaround in results. He continued: “The players have kept working and preparing for all the games. It’s what they have to do. We’re going to lose games. It’s inevitable every now and then. I’m happy for the players because they’ve put up with the criticism.”
Zidane was particularly pleased with his midfielders who have made a habit of scoring in the recent games. Casemiro, mainly a defensive midfielder was the most advanced on the pitch when he headed home Asensio’s cross to open the scoring.
Zidane pointed out the fact in his post-match press conference “We know that Casemiro gets forward. Defensively, we know what he can do. He brings us a lot but attacking-wise too. It was a great goal. We know he’s good with his head, like Sergio [Ramos] and Rafa [Varane].”
“The success is everyone’s. The three midfielders do a great job, but the credit goes to the team. But it’s true that they’re getting more goals.”
Zidane also defended his decision to bring on Asensio for the injured Rodrgo, although Hazard was on the bench. Hazard last played for Madrid in their 2-1 defeat against Alaves and has been out with an injury since.
“I didn’t think it was appropriate to play him. It was a tough game. I didn’t want to risk Eden. He’s fine, but we’re going step by step.”
