Another day, another huge fight in the NHL. The Saturday night game in Chicago had the hosts, the Chicago Blackhawks, face against the Buffalo Sabres. Things did get messy when a huge 10-man brawl broke out between the two sets of players.
With just minutes left for the game to end, Sabres forward Peyton Krebs delivered a huge open-ice hit on Blackhawks’ Philipp Kurashev. This hit on Kurashev was not welcomed by Tyler Bertuzzi, who immediately rushed to the aide of his new teammate and took on Krebs.
Usually, in an NHL scrum, two players going at each other is common. However, a 10-man brawl is uncommon. The last time such an incident took place was when the New Jersey Devils took on the New York Rangers in April 2024. The two sets of players dropped gloves from the early get-go and launched into each other.
In this game between the Blackhawks and the Sabres, the fight started off after Bertuzzi launched himself on Krebs. With tensions running high, all ten players got involved in the fight and started grabbing each other. The referees, though, were quick to slow this down. Once the fight was finished, two Sabres players and three Blackhawks stars were sent into the penalty box.

Following this altercation, the Sabres added an empty net goal to put the game beyond any doubt and emerged as 4-2 victors. This win improved their records to 2-4-1, while the Blackhawks dropped 2-3-1 in the early season.
Fans attack Tyler Bertuzzi on social media for instigating 10-man brawl
While Tyler Bertuzzi did not like the hit by Peyton Krebs on Philipp Kurashev, several fans did not like what the former Toronto Maple Leafs star did. Fans on social media have attacked Bertuzzi for his actions. They claimed that it was a clean hit on Kurashev by Krebs.
Whether a huge brawl would have broken out or not is hard to predicate. Several supporters have ridiculed Bertuzzi for his involvement in instigating the fight. Some even called out his pass because Krebs launched into Kurashev in the first place.

Bertuzzi's pass was more criminal than that hit…Kim Jong Bettman needs to step in and do something about these "fights" after clean hits

Lol. NHL has gotten so soft. I think one dropped glove and not a single punch thrown. Chaos? Yeah…

I watch replays of games 10-15yrs ago & guys are knocked out and guys play on.
1. It’s a very clean hit

2. As a Blackhawks fan, I don’t care that there was this reaction. We haven’t had reactions like this since Zadorov was with the team. It’s nice to see this reaction for this team.
The Sabres’ next game sees them welcome the Dallas Stars, who are 5-1-0 for the season so far. Meanwhile, the Blackhawks and Bertuzzi would look to bounce back from this defeat as they take on the Vancouver Canucks in their next game.
