A case could be made that there is no other PL winger better than Mohamed Salah and that he has long surpassed the legacy of Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard as the Egyptian simply doesn’t stop scoring

Liverpool once again got a result away from home in London as they’ve defeated Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and now West Ham United. Mohamed Salah scored two goals in the space of 11 goals and Gini Wijnaldum got one while Chris Dawson pulled a consolation goal for the Hammers near the end of the game. Liverpool cut the difference between them and Manchester United to 1 point and has shown tremendous mentality to come from 6 points behind.

Liverpool playing through the middle has seen them win matches after crossing failed to win them matches

Liverpool is known for their attacking full-backs put in delicious crosses into the opposite penalty box and getting goals through headers. Now opponents have countered that by placing taller centre-backs and more number of players in the box to outnumber Liverpool’s attackers. Jurgen Klopp changed that fundamental approach and now has seen Liverpool score 6 goals in 2 matches against in-form sides. Playing through the middle along with making Gini Wijnaldum the deep lying midfielder has benefited Liverpool superbly.

Thiago Alcantara has been pushed forward and now he is more involved in the creating of chances and he created a big chance for Divock Origi near the end of the first half. However after a drab first half where both teams weren’t really at their attacking best, Liverpool tore apart West Ham United in 11 minutes of second half time. James Milner was substituted out for Curtis Jones and the latter immediately got an assist as Mohamed Salah curled in an absolutely beautiful goal into the top left corner.

Lukasz Fabianski had no chance of saving that goal and 11 minutes later was victim to one of the greatest goals of the Premier League season. A West Ham United corner was headed by Andy Robertson to Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Liverpool right-back sent a beautiful diagonal cross ball to Xherdan Shaqiri who took one touch to put another delightful cross to Mohamed Salah. Salah got the ball under control with an amazing touch and lobbed the ball slightly past Fabianski. That goal took 15 seconds and 7 touches as Liverpool travelled 110 yards from their own goal post to the West Ham goal post for the ball to end in the net.

This was the crown jewel of all counter-attacks as with just three passes Liverpool sliced open West Ham United. A third goal was added by Liverpool when Roberto Firmino and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain played a one-two pass inside the penalty box with the former unselfishly passing to Gini Wijnaldum who simply couldn’t miss from that range. With that Liverpool had run away with a win while it was slightly dampened by Chris Dawson’s consolation goal for West Ham United.

Liverpool next face Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield before Manchester City travels to Anfield. This will be Liverpool’s greatest fight for the title as Manchester City are 4 points ahead with a match in hand. Liverpool and Manchester City have once before been locked in one of the greatest title races as the former forced the latter to win 14 matches to lift the 2018/19 Premier League trophy.
