This year’s French Open will kick off on Sunday (May 25th). It’s the second Grand Slam of the season after the Australian Open.

Carlos Alcaraz will enter the tournament as the defending champion. Tournament’s most successful player, Rafael Nadal, won’t be featuring as he retired last year but a grand ceremony has been organized on Sunday to pay tribute to the 14-time Roland Garros winner.

First quarter

Jannik Sinner will headline the first quarter. The French Open will be his third tournament this season because he missed three months due to his doping ban.

Other seeded players in the draw are, Andrey Rublev, Arthur Fils, Alex de Minaur, Jakub Mensik, Hubert Hurkacz, and Jack Draper. The British ace is in red-hot form and he is expected to reach the quarterfinal to set up a clash with Sinner. Sinner could also set up a blockbuster clash with Joao Fonseca but the Brazilian youngster will be entering the French Open after a string of poor results on clay.

Second quarter

This quarter has World No.2 Alexander Zverev and three-time French Open champion Novak Djokovic. Zverev was the runner-up last year. Djokovic will be hoping to win his 25th Major.

Zverev could run into Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round, while Djokovic could meet Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round. Apart from these players, this quarter also has Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Francisco Cerundolo.

Third quarter

Lorenzo Musetti is the favorite to reach the quarterfinals. But before that, he could set up a fourth-round clash with Holger Rune.

Before reaching the quarterfinal, Musetti could also meet Reilly Opelka in the third round. Frances Tiafoe, Sebastian Korda, Alex Michelsen, Brandon Nakashima, and Tomas Machac are the other seeded players in the draw.

Fourth quarter

Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is a part of this quarter. He will be facing Ben Shelton if both of them reach the fourth round.

Reigning Madrid Open champion Casper Ruud could set up a clash with Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. But before that, Ruud could meet Tommy Paul in the fourth round. Paul, last week, played the semifinal of the Italian Open against eventual runner-up Sinner.

Semifinals

Sinner, despite his clay-court records, is the heavy favorite to reach the final. He was the semifinalist in Paris last year and was on the verge of beating Alcaraz.

Given that Djokovic has produced inconsistent performance, could lose to Zverev. In the other quarterfinals, Musetti will be the favorite against Fritz, while Alcaraz is expected to knock out Ruud.

Semifinal prediction:

Final

This is the first time Sinner and Alcaraz are seeded first and second seed in a Grand Slam tournament. Sinner and Alcaraz could set up another blockbuster clash and if this happens then the Spaniard will once again be the favorite to win.

Alcaraz holds a 7-4 head-to-head record over the Italian ace and also recently beat him in the Italian Open final. On clay as well, Alcaraz leads, with 10 clay-court titles, and a 2-1 lead in clay-court encounters with Sinner.
