Alcaraz could set up a quarterfinal match against this year’s Miami Open finalist, Jiri Lehecka, or Alexander Bublik. Gael Monfils, who is set to retire after this season, will play the Kazakh ace in the second round.

Third quarter
Two old rivals are projected to face each other in the quarterfinals. They are Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.

While Sascha, despite making deep runs, has yet to lift a title since the 2025 Munich Open, Medvedev has already won the Brisbane International and the Dubai Tennis Championships, and also reached the final of the Indian Wells Masters. Medvedev could set up a third-round clash with Joao Fonseca. This quarter also has Andrey Rublev and Zizou Bergs, who is competing in doubles with Sinner.

Semifinals
Medvedev, who doesn’t like to compete on clay, has yet to win a Big Title since the 2023 Italian Open. It was, in fact, his career’s first title on clay. But Zverev has won nine of his 24 singles titles on clay.

Musetti could set up a rematch of last year’s Monte-Carlo Masters final with Alcaraz, but this time, in the semifinals. Sinner, the two-time semifinalist in the tournament, is the winner of just one clay-court title but still will be the heavy favorite to progress to the final.
Semifinal prediction:
- Carlos Alcaraz vs. Lorenzo Musetti
- Jannik Sinner vs. Alexander Zverev
Final
This tournament could see the first matchup of the season between Alcaraz and Sinner. Because they are the top two seeds, they will only face each other if they reach the final.

Alcaraz holds a 10-6 head-to-head lead over the four-time Major champion but lost their last meeting in the title clash of the 2025 ATP Finals. Last year, Sinner played two finals on clay, in Rome and Paris, losing both to Alcaraz.

- Winner prediction: Carlos Alcaraz
