2x Champ reveals how LeBron James’ bubble championship was ‘gangster’

Rajon Rondo and LeBron James won the bubble championship for the Los Angeles Lakers

LeBron James has won four NBA titles to date. Many believe he should have won more to cement his legacy as the GOAT. At the same time, there are some who believe his fourth title, the Los Angeles Lakers’ bubble championship is the easiest anyone could win.

At the head of this school of thought are veteran media members Stephen A. Smith, Skip Bayless and a few others. They believe that since the Lakers did not have to endure hostile away crowds or deal with jet lag, the strain was not enough to make it a worthwhile championship win.

On the other hand, players believe that notion is baseless. Shaquille O’Neal for instance feels that one should only discredit the bubble championship if they are willing to discredit the lockdown shortened championship Tim Duncan won.

But veteran media members do not bring up Tim Duncan‘s championships in a debate that is focused on James and his GOAT argument. They still hold the belief that the bubble made it easy for him. But one of his teammates who also happens to have won another championship thinks differently.

In a bubble it’s kind of street ball. There are no other distractions off the court. You might go to your hotel room and see the guy you just played against. You might be eating breakfast two seats across for me. For me it was some gangster s**t. It was mano o mano, who can make the quickest adjustment.

Rajon Rondo said

Rajon Rondo has won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008, which was in a normal setting. It was against their archrivals, the Los Angeles Lakers with Kobe Bryant leading the team. Therefore, based off that experience, he believes the bubble championship experience was tough.

Dwyane Wade chimes on bubble championship discourse

Rajon Rondo said this on Dwyane Wade’s podcast. The Miami Heat legend instantly agreed with the logic that any championship is tough, no matter the circumstances. After listening to Rondo, he went on to say this to all the naysayers.

Stop s**ting on the bubble championship everybody. Matter of fact don’t s**t on no championships, especially when you haven’t won one.

Dwyane Wade said

Dwyane Wade believes those who have not won a championship should not be discrediting any championship in any sport. They do not know how difficult it is to win one, therefore, they are not equipped to know how hard or easy it would be.

LeBron James winning ring no. 5 could end bubble championship discourse

LeBron James has made it clear that he will retire from the game of basketball soon. Some believe that could be as early as after the 2025-26 season. But ever since his role has changed after Luka Doncic‘s arrival, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar could alter his plans.

He does not expend as much energy as he used to do before and therefore, could continue playing a bit longer. The four-time league MVP knows he cannot keep going if his body starts to break down. But before that happens, he would like to win another NBA title or two.

JJ Redick has helped the Lakers play with a different dynamic after Doncic’s arrival. Some believe the team is primed to make a run for the NBA title this season. If James can lead the Lakers to the Finals, there could be no stopping him from trying to win his fifth ring.

Whether he does it this season or next, or even the year after that, a fifth ring when he is above 40 could propel him to the top of the GOAT debate. With that, the discourse surrounding the bubble championship should also cease to exist.
