Ilia Topuria is undoubtedly one of the biggest superstars on the current UFC roster. The featherweight king has proved his mettle against some of the biggest names in history. Last year, he knocked out both Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway, which once looked like an impossible achievement. 

Topuria is extremely skilled, both on the feet as well as the ground. The Georgian-Spanish fighter can submit others easily, and has the power to knock out top lightweights. On top of that, he understands the business and knows how to sell pay-per-views.

UFC CEO Dana White recently announced that the Georgian-Spaniard will vacate the featherweight division due to complications in weight cutting. Topuria wanted to fight Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title but might have to earn that spot with a lucrative matchup.

Charles Oliveira is regarded as one of the most successful lightweights in history. After facing many defeats, the Brazilian superstar didn’t back down, and went on to become the world champion. His title reign, though short, was extremely entertaining. Oliveira is currently aiming for his title rematch against Islam Makhachev.

After all, El Matador once suggested a matchup against the Brazilian superstar. Getting a win over ‘Do Bronx’ can easily solidify Topuria as a worthy challenger for the lightweight title.

Arman Tsarukyan was the top contender to fight Makhachev and was very close to battling it out at UFC 311. However, due to a last-minute injury, the Armenian star had to pull out. However, on paper, many believe that Tsarukyan remains the toughest challenge for the Dagestani champion.

Tsarukyan has an incredible ground game and was able to beat Oliveira last year. In this scenario, if Ilia Topuria manages to beat Tsarukyan, it could definitely land him a title shot. Topuria has mentioned that he believes he can beat Makhachev with ease. While many don’t believe the claims, the knockout artist certainly has the ability to do so.
