3 reasons why Stephen Curry is yet to break ‘GOAT’ conversations
Many have asked for Golden State Warriors superstar guard Stephen Curry to be included in the GOAT conversation.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry is close to entering the GOAT conversation
Ask any current generation basketball fan who their favorite player is, and chances are they will it is Stephen Curry. Fans relate to him after the guard seemingly rewrote how to play basketball and also won four NBA titles to show for it. Now, his continued excellence has warranted his inclusion in the GOAT debate.
Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal spoke about the need to include Curry in GOAT conversations. This is his 16th season in the league and even now he can light it up at will and lead his Golden State Warriors to victory.
Along with his desire to win championships, the 36-year-old has proved to the world that one need not be absurdly tall and athletic to be great at basketball. That speaks of a culture changer, something the likes of Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are known for.
But since his game has helped the league reach the far corners of the globe, his efforts are GOAT ish to some. However, there are a few things that some basketball afficionados believe are keeping the superstar from entering that debate.
Win another NBA title
When one looks at the two players at the top of the GOAT conversation, Michael Jordan and LeBron James, they both have multiple league MVP awards to go with their title hauls. Along with that, they have scoring titles, defensive 1st team call ups etc.
In the midst of all this, Stephen Curry also has four NBA title to show. Along with that, he also has two league MVP awards and one NBA Finals MVP to show for. That was when he won the last of his four titles as his teammates mopped up the award in his previous three trips.
One of those players is Kevin Durant, with some arguing that without him, Curry wouldn’t have two of his championships. That is an indictment on what he has achieved and done for the game of basketball. Therefore, he has to continue what he started with his 2022 championship.
He has to win another title to firmly enter the GOAT debate. A fifth NBA title will help him shed the notion that he has not led his team to championships. Which also means, he has to do enough to be named the NBA Finals MVP.
Win a Finals MVP
Stephen Curry is no doubt the leader of the Golden State Warriors. But despite wearing that unofficial tag over the course of his career, not being named NBA Finals MVP in his first three championships has stood out.
He might have set the basketball world alight with his scoring. But many believe that he benefitted from having great teammates around him. On top of that one of the best coaches in basketball history has overlooked those wins.
The coach remains and do some of his illustrious teammates. However, he has to lead the way and that means he has to win another NBA Finals MVP. To enter the basketball GOAT conversation, he has to take his individual brilliance up a notch. And that starts with that elusive individual award.
Stephen Curry has to follow LeBron James’ path
The basketball world knows that Stephen Curry is not much of a defender. Therefore, chances of him impacting that area of the statistics world are negligible. But what he can do is to continue dominating offensively.
He may be 36 years old, but if he can learn something from longtime rival and Olympic teammate LeBron James, is how to stay conditioned at such an advanced age. If he follows a bit of James’ routine and dedication to conditioning, Curry can star for the Golden State Warriors for a few years more.
He is currently contracted to play until the end of the 2026-27 season. By that time, he will be 39 years old. If he can continue his level of play until the age of 40 and win a title and a Finals MVP by that time, no one can discount his position in the GOAT conversation.
