The competitiveness in college football takes off to another when Bowl games come around. So much so, that coaches bring out some of their wildest schemes and trick plays to help their team win. But for Florida Gators senior defensive lineman Desmond Watson, his size is enough to become a trick play.

Earlier, the Florida Gators faced the Tulane Green Wave in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl. In what would be their final game of the season, head coach Billy Napier decided to give his senior a trick play to finish his season on a high note.

In the fourth quarter, with the Gators up 26-0, Napier called a run play on a 3rd and 1. For this, he sent Watson in to take the snap, which saw the 6′ 5″ lineman line up beside his quarterback. The Tulane defense knew the assignment and lined up to stop him.

But four Tulane defensive linemen were not enough to stop the 449lb Watson as he bulldozed through to give his team the first down. His offensive teammates were ecstatic while the Tulane defenders slowly got up knowing they collectively could not stop the heaviest player in college football.

When on the sideline as his teammates kept talking about the play, Desmond Watson did one better. He shook his head slightly and hit the Heisman Trophy pose while smiling to his teammates. What he did not know was that television cameras were still broadcasting him as he hit that pose.

Once the clipping of it hit the internet, it instantly went viral. The heaviest college football player managed to draw the attention of football fans from his one play. However, once fans started searching his name, they noticed it was not the only highlight he had in that game.

Desmond Watson shows his size and power in 1st quarter

With five minutes left in the first quarter, the Florida Gators were up by just three points. The Tulane Green Wave had a chance to reduce that deficit as they started to drive down the field. When they reached the halfway point, they lined up to try and convert a 3rd and 1.

The play was a designed quarterback run as Tulane QB Ty Thompson received the snap and drove directly up field. However, Desmond Watson threw Thompson’s center to the ground and grabbed the QB by his waist just before he could break the 1st down marker.

To ensure the quarterback could not stretch his arm in to convert the down, the 6′ 5″ tackle lifted Ty Thompson up into the air and brought him down well before the 1st down marker. That tackle ensured the Gators forced the Green Wave into punting the ball.

The Gators could not stretch the lead much for the rest of the first half. But in the second half, they came out strong and win the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl game 33-8. Their season comes to a close and Watson could use his highlight reel plays to motivate himself to return next season.
