Brock Purdy has gone from being Mr. Irrelevant to rewriting his story as Mr. Relevant, breaking records along the way. Despite constant criticism for his stature and being labeled a “system quarterback,” the San Francisco 49ers star has remained unfazed, winning over fans—including former President Donald Trump.

Donald Trump followed his presidential opponent, Kamala Harris, making an appearance in a known podcast show. Appearing on “Bussin’ With the Boys” hosted by Will Compton and Taylor Lewan, Trump discussed football, success, and more. Harris had previously had a sitdown with Alex Cooper on her podcast about women’s reproductive rights, “Call Her Daddy.”

The 78-year-old Trump, looking forward to becoming the oldest president to be inaugurated if he wins, joined the duo to reach to a younger audience. Trump addressed Purdy as interesting and noted that risky choices might end up being good, suggesting that it can be predicted.

(Purdy) is a great story, he’s like the last drafted, and they put him in, and he just moved the team. He’s really good– He’s really good, you never know… Mr. Irrelevant. He’s not irrelevant anymore.

Donald Trump said

Trump’s admission comes a week before the San Francisco 49ers face the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch.

[Purdy’s] not irrelevant any longer, but he’s just a great quarterback, and it shows you there’s a little luck in sports. And actually, he wouldn’t have played except that everybody got hurt in front of him, and then they put him in, and they moved the ball right. And that was the end of that. That’s happened before, it happened with Tom Brady.

Donald Trump added

Purdy is once again without star RB Christian McCaffrey, whose absence has been hugely affecting the 49ers as they remain 3-3. Chiefs, on the other hand, have sailed through the first five games unbeaten despite losing many key players to injury.

Trump had been previously linked with the NFL multiple times. In 2014, Trump controversially bid a billion dollars to buy the Buffalo Bills after long-time owner Ralph Wilson‘s death.

On Bussing With the Boys’ latest episode, Trump reflected on the failed Bills bid as well. He admitted that Terrence Pegula had 400 million more than he offered. Nonetheless, Trump expressed that Pegula is a nice guy and praised him for picking Josh Allen.

Brock Purdy and the 49ers continue to rise after dismal start

The San Francisco 49ers aren’t the best bunch in the NFC at the moment. They started with a win, followed by two losses, and are 3-3 after six games. The loss at the hands of the Arizona Cardinals had dropped the Niners to an 18th position in Power Rankings. But, they proved that they are still flammable against the Seattle Seahawks last week.

The San Francisco 49ers have risen to 14th in the NFL.com Power Rankings after the win. Purdy moved into second position in the NFL passing yards leaderboard with 1629 yards for 121-of-185 attempts. He also recorded 9 touchdowns so far, twice managing three or more TDs in a single game.

Additionally, on Thursday, Purdy also tied the ranks of Russell Wilson for the most games with 120 or above passer ratings within the first three seasons in the NFL. In Week 6 at Lumen Field, Purdy recorded a passer rating of 129.3, marking his 12th career game with a rating above 120.0. The players trailing behind him with the most such games are Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, and retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, each with 10 games.
