Star running back Christian McCaffrey’s calf is still bothering him. The San Francisco 49ers coaching team limited his practice as a result.
McCaffrey’s issues with his leg date back to the 2024 offseason. A short while after taking his nuptial vows, McCaffrey flew to Europe to find a cure for Achilles tendinitis.
Despite spending several days on the treatment, the doctors weren’t able to fully erase his pain. This caused McCaffrey to miss the first nine weeks of football. He lasted just four games. McCaffrey left in the first of the Buffalo Bills fixtures in week 13 with a posterior cruciate ligament injury, forcing the 49ers to place him on the season-long injured reserve list.
Kyle Shanahan used caution with McCaffrey during the recently concluded offseason training camp. Trent Williams validated McCaffrey’s return to top condition to NBC Sports Bay Area‘s Jennifer Lee Chan.
Obviously, y’all got eyes like I do. Christian looks fantastic. He looks like Offensive Player of the Year Christian. That’s really refreshing to see, knowing what he had to deal with last year. Just the little knicks and knacks and not being able to do what he loves.

This was a great sign for fantasy football managers to draft the 2023 Offensive Player of the Year recipient for their team. However, there has been an ominous development regarding McCaffrey’s health, which could force the managers to rely on another player.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, McCaffrey appeared limited on Thursday’s practice sheet due to a calf condition.

49ers fans brace for the worst as Christian McCaffrey misses practice two days before the opening fixture
McCaffrey prefers to speak with the media on Thursdays in the regular season. However, as it is week one, no one batted an eye despite the 29-year-old’s absence from the open locker room press availability.

When the news about McCaffrey’s limited practice first hit the news portal, the Niners fans braced for the worst. It’s hard to piece everything together until Shanahan or anyone from the 49ers front office provides a concrete update. Until then, it has to be assumed that they are trying to shield McCaffrey from sustaining another injury.

McCaffrey is one of the best carriers in football. He accumulated 2023 yards from scrimmage and scored a total of 21 touchdowns to end up on the cover of Madden 24.
A lot of people will chalk McCaffrey’s injury woes off to the infamous ‘Madden Curse.’ It has claimed the careers of several Madden cover athletes before McCaffrey.
Earlier this year, McCaffrey congratulated Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley for becoming the cover athlete of EA’s renowned video game.
McCaffrey has bigger fish to fry as the Niners gear up to travel to Seattle to face the Seattle Seahawks on Monday.
