CeeDee Lamb went from being a hero to a villain in the eyes of the Dallas Cowboys fans on Thursday. The star receiver dropped crucial passes, which played a big part in the final result.

Lamb began the fixture in his usual confident self. For once, he had a trusty number two in the shape of George Pickens to rely on for sharing the workload.

However, the All-Pro receiver had a rough time. He dropped a total of four passes, two in the final drive, that cost the Cowboys valuable yardage.

Quarterback Dak Prescott threw a dot to Lamb near the midfield. Lamb caught up to the ball and, at first glance, looked certain to keep it under his control until the ball popped out. The Philadelphia Eagles defenders pounced on the loose ball, but the pass was deemed incomplete.

Shortly after the referee announced the two-minute warning, Prescott threw a deep pass on third and 10. Lamb dove forward to grab the ball, but it slipped through his paws. The Cowboys blew a great opportunity to score.

CeeDee Lamb faced severe criticism on social media for dropping too many catches

Lamb is one of the safest pairs of hands in the entire NFL. Last year, he had dropped only 7 total passes in 15 games, but he almost equaled that in week one of the 2025 season.

Naturally, the Cowboys fans were unhappy with CeeDee Lamb for squandering chances in a game against their bitter rivals. Those drops could have given the Dallas franchise the onus of beating the defending champions, but they failed. It ended with the Eagles securing a 24-20 win.

Lamb’s mistake overshadowed the history he created in the tie. He became the second youngest (26) wide receiver to record 500 receptions (second only to Larry Fitzgerald).

The Sooners alumni also punched in his second opening day 100-yard haul, his first 100-yard week one happened while playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021. This took Lamb’s career tally to 22 one-hundred-yard games since making his debut.

Despite creating history, he won’t be celebrating the feat anytime soon because of the loss, in which he contributed 7 receptions and 110 yards. Lamb spoke about his drops during the post-game presser and claimed that he “needs to catch the ball.”

That’s terrible. I can’t point the finger at anybody else. I take full accountability and everything else that comes with it. As a player, I train for moments like that and the ball to come my way.

Lamb must erase this memory from his system as quickly as possible. There are plenty of games for him to redeem himself, starting with the New York Giants in Dallas.
