Even though Victor Wembanyama ended up losing the NBA Finals, basketball fans know his success will lead scouts to look for players with a similar build and skill, and that is how Jagmeet Singh started getting coverage.

The Frenchman is listed at 7’4″, but many know he is taller than that. On top of that, he has a ridiculous wingspan, which makes him a one-man wrecking crew inside the paint.

His ability to reach and stop shots from quite a distance from the basket has made it tough for opposing teams to get a handle on him.

Sure, the New York Knicks proved how a schematic change can slow the 22-year-old enough for them to hinder his abilities on both ends of the floor.

But the reality is that if there is one player who can do all that, then teams can build the roster with capable complementary pieces, and that is how franchises have started to believe that they can reach the Finals.

There are other players who are taller than seven feet and have ball-handling skills of a guard to boot. But none of them have panned out the way teams were hoping. That does not mean they will not stop looking for the next Victor Wembanyama.

Enter 18-year-old Jagmeet Singh. The Indian was part of his country’s national team, and his combination saw him get tryouts with AAU teams in America. He now plays for YnR 7’4, an AAU team that plays in the RecruitLook Hoops league. When a video of his highlights appeared on social media, basketball fans lost their minds.

Fans left amazed at Jagmeet Singh’s ability

Basketball fans know it is generally premature to crown anyone the next version of one of the best players in the league. Charles Barkley has mentioned how comparisons to Michael Jordan have destroyed the careers of many promising players.

Some fans observing Jagmeet Singh had the same apprehension. They know there have been several players who can be similar to Victor Wembanyama, but have fizzled out.

Yet, most of those watching the video could not shake away the fact that the young Sikh is raw. He has trained mostly in India and could develop a lot further once he gets absorbed by a college here. They took to social media to react to Singh’s skills, examples of those are below.

Sim Bhullar is the lone Indian to briefly play in the NBA, and now plays in the Chinese league. Two other Indians have managed to get a G-League contract.

Overall, they have not survived long enough to earn a spot on the first team for the long run. However, fans believe Jagmeet Singh has skills the other two never had. Therefore, he could find his way to the NBA.

What Jagmeet Singh needs to do to reach the NBA

Singh is 18 years old, as per FIBA’s player registry, which means he is already older than most players on the AAU circuit. But that does not mean he cannot reach the NBA.

If he performs well, he could get a call from any NCAA college. But for that, he truly has to prove that he is not just dominating kids younger and shorter than him solely because of his height.

If he does get a scholarship offer, the next stage would be to prove he is no lanky prospect with no real fight in him. That last part is what separates Wembanyama from the rest of his fellow over-seven-footers.

Jagmeet Singh can reach the NBA, but he has to put on bulk and know he will be battling to prove his abilities against faster and more athletic Americans. Once he proves he can survive that, reaching the big leagues could be a possibility.
