The Indian Cricket Team is in a real spot of bother at the moment having lost the first two ODIs against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Both matches followed the same template as Australia won the toss, chose to bat, piled up a huge score before defending the same. Despite India’s more than decent batting performances, their bowling looked below par. Another aspect which was criticized as being below par was Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

The 32-year-old Kohli’s captaincy has come under intense scrutiny in recent times with a plethora of pundits calling out his allegedly strange captaincy decisions, none more vociferous than former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir. This has led to calls from various spheres for Kohli to continue only as a batsman and hand over captaincy duties to vice-captain Rohit Sharma who has been supremely successful as skipper of the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rohit Sharma isn’t a part of the limited overs series against Australia and India sorely missed his presence at the top of the order as well as the Australian bowlers bouncers to get rid of India’s top order. There were claims that Rohit, an excellent player of the pull shot would have held his own against the Australians. Further, the lack of communication between Rohit and Kohli has been criticized with many speculating a ‘cold war’ between the two.
