IND vs AUS 1st ODI

Australia‘s batting, just like in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, fell flat when they faced India for the first of the three-match ODI series on Friday (March 17) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. All they could put on the scoreboard was a mere total of 188 runs in 35.4 overs.

After being asked to bat first, Australia’s Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh opened their innings but Mohammed Siraj, again with the new ball, drew the first blood by dismissing Head in the second over. But despite his wicket, Marsh and captain Steve Smith stitched a 50-plus-run partnership but India captain Hardik Pandya got rid of the latter due to his poor shot.

Marnus Labuschagne scored 15 and was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav, while Josh Inglis, who scored the second-highest run for his team, was bowled out by Mohammed Shami. Inglis hit one four and the same number of six to add 26 runs from 27 balls. Star batter Cameron Green was also dismissed by Shami for a mere 12 runs.

Only Marsh played a brilliant knock of 81 runs from 65 balls, including 10 fours and six maximums. He batted at a strike rate of 124.62. But when he tried to slog a delivery off Ravindra Jadeja, he top-edged it to Siraj who did no mistake while taking that easy catch.

Amongst the Indian bowlers, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj scalped three wickets each. Ravindra Jadeja got two, while Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav grabbed one each.

India have started their run chase but like Australia, they are also losing wickets at regular intervals. They have already lost four wickets for 58 runs.

Tearaway pacer Mitchell Starc was the wrecker-in-chief in sending the top-order into packing. He dismissed Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav (for a golden duck), while Ishan Kishan was trapped by Marcus Stoinis off lbw. At the crease, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya are playing at 17* and 11* respectively.
