The NBA’s MVP Ladder has been dominated by big men for the last 3 years. Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo have been at the forefront for the last 3 years now. After missing out by the barest of margins on 2 consecutive occasions, Embiid senses a genuine chance at the coveted award this season, as voter fatigue will play a major role in bringing Jokic down. With 2 weeks of action remaining in the regular season, Embiid is currently leading the MVP ladder. The Philadelphia 76ers currently placed third in the relatively relaxed eastern conference with a 49-25 record, and have clinched a playoff spot.
Embiid spoke to the Athletic prior to the game about how different players are perceived and went “People always thought that I was wild when I said this—I really believe that I’m not well-liked. And it’s cool with me, that’s fine. I’ll be the bad guy. I like being the a–hole anyway. I like being the underdog. So that’s fine with me”.
Embiid currently leads the league in scoring with 33.3 points per game. The 76ers have lost 2 out of their last 3 games and will hope to conclude their 4-game road trip with a Win.
