2023 has not been a kind year to Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo so far. The Frenchman and his bike were a fierce pair back in 2021 when he clinched the riders world championship trophy. However, it’s all gone downhill since then. After a quite dominant run is his championship winning season, doubts start to flow as Fabio won fewer races last year. The bike had a lot of issues.

With Pecco Bagnaia clinching the 2022 riders title along with Ducati grabbing all the trophies, Fabio’s title hopes for 2023 were fading away. In the first five rounds of the 2023 MotoGP season, Fabio Quartararo has just been able to score a single podium. He further went on to state on Friday that this was his toughest season yet in MotoGP. Sadly, the pain and anguish did not stop there.

The Monster Energy Yamaha rider had a horrid qualifying leading to him starting the sprint in 13th position. He was running eighth while tragedy struck as he crashed out of the sprint race that was then won by Jorge Martin. Yamaha’s aim to bring in new parts post the Spanish GP test seemed to make no performance changes at all leading to the rider being massively disappointed.

Fabio Quartararo doesn’t feel confident with the Yamaha

When asked by Autosport if he feels confident that Yamaha actually understands how to improve its bike, he replied: “Confident? I will not say confident, because we tried so many things and nothing was working in a positive way,” he said. “But we have to work and try to find a solution as soon as possible. After this race we have three weeks off, but unfortunately the problem we have is a matter of power,” he continued.

2023 has not proven to be the year of ‘El Diablo’, however there is still hope for the Frenchman. While he still is Yamaha’s best shot at winning the championship again, it has gotten much harder. With the bike’s serious pace issues, Fabio Quartararo has to take higher risks for higher rewards. It hasn’t paid off yet. Do you think Fabio will be able to win a MotoGP race this season?
