India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah shared a massive update about his fitness on Saturday (May 27), a day after Mumbai Indians‘ (MI) exit from the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Bumrah, on his Instagram, shared a picture of his bowling spikes, maybe to show he is soon going to make his comeback to competitive cricket.

The 29-year-old has been out since September 2022 due to his back stress fracture. He recently underwent back surgery in New Zealand, meaning he would miss the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia from June 7 to 11 at The Oval in London.

Due to the injury, India couldn’t get this tearaway pacer’s services in the 2022 T20 World Cup where India faced a semi-finals exit. Though there was quite a buzz that he will play in the IPL, the injury did not allow him to give his valuable services to the Mumbai Indians who were dreaming to form a deadly combo of Bumrah plus Jofra Archer. Though Bumrah missed out on the entire season, Archer, after playing just a couple of matches, left for England due to another injury.

Though the squad for the WTC has already been announced, Bumrah still was able to tease the fans by posting a picture of his shoes with the caption: “Hello friend, we meet again“. Bumrah, in all possibility, won’t be able to return to the Indian side for the WTC Final.

The BCCI would be careful not to rush Jasprit Bumrah this time

Last year, Jasprit Bumrah, despite struggling with injury, played matches to prepare for the T20 World Cup. However, as mentioned before, that decision backfired as was not at all able to play. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was accused of rushing Bumrah and not giving him much time to recover.

The BCCI, this time, would avoid rushing Bumrah for India’s matches and is giving him enough time to gain 100 percent fitness, keeping in mind the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, which is just around five months away.
