Australian Open 2021: “I am so proud of you” – Lewis Hamilton sends moving message to Serena Williams

Serena Williams‘ Australian Open 2021 campaign came to an end today as she lost in the semi-final in straight sets to her Japanese opponent Naomi Osaka. The American tennis ace looked out of sorts for large parts of the encounter as she kept making unforced errors regularly. Apart from a promising stretch in the beginning, it looked almost certain that Osaka would come up trumps.
With the loss, the 39-year-old’s wait for her 24th Grand Slam title which would see her equal the great Margaret Court continues. Serena’s recent streak of looking near-unbeatable till the semi-final or final and then looking out of sorts in the all-important match seems to continue as well. In that vein, despite her loss, Serena has been lauded and praised for her never-say-die attitude and for her exemplary fighting spirit.

British Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton has also joined in to send his best wishes to Serena Williams after her loss. The racer posted an Instagram story of Serena and Naomi Osaka from the match and wrote, “I’m so proud of you, you fought like the champ you are and continue to inspire so many including me with your fighting spirit and your humility.” The Brit’s wish has since then, gone viral on social media.

Naomi Osaka on the other hand looks in good stead to win her second Australian Open and fourth Grand Slam title at the final on Saturday. She will be favorite when she goes up against American Jennifer Brady who defeated Karolina Muchova in the other semi-final.
