Damian Lillard, the star of the Portland Trail Blazers, has made it crystal clear that he has no interest in joining the Golden State Warriors, even if it meant winning a championship. In a recent interview, Lillard expressed his preference for losing every year rather than playing for a team like the Warriors.

Lillard emphasized his respect for what the Warriors have achieved over the years, acknowledging his hometown connection, but he firmly stated that he has no intention of bringing his talents to Dub Nation.

“I respect what they’ve been doing over the last eight, nine years or whatever and I’m from there obviously. That’s home. But I can’t be a part of that,” Lillard said. “It don’t even make sense. I never do nothing like that. I lose every year before I go.”

The Warriors have undeniably been one of the NBA’s most successful teams in recent years, securing four championships in the past eight seasons. Despite this impressive track record, Lillard has consistently expressed his reluctance to join a team that is already overflowing with top-tier talent.

“I want to be a part of something that I built,” Lillard said in an interview last year. “I want to be a part of something that I helped to create.” Since stepping foot into the league in 2012, Lillard has played with the Trail Blazers. The team has made it to the playoffs six times under his leadership, although they have never advanced past the Western Conference Finals.

As one of the premier point guards in the NBA, Damian Lillard would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to any team. However, if he decides to part ways with Portland, his reluctance to sign with a “surprise franchise” like the Warriors, combined with his preference for taking his time in choosing a new team, could pose challenges in finding the right fit, especially if his decision-making extends into the start of training camps.

As of September 19, 2023, the NBA trade rumors are still whirling around, and Damian Lillard, the star point guard for the Portland Trail Blazers, is still the subject of several of them.

The Miami Heat maintain their interest in acquiring Damian Lillard, but they appear reluctant to include Tyler Herro, a promising young talent, in any potential trade. This hesitation to part with Herro underscores the value both players hold for the Heat. Herro is regarded as a prized asset, leaving the outcome uncertain as to whether the Trail Blazers would agree to a deal without his inclusion.

In addition to Herro, the Blazers are reportedly interested in having the Miami Heat include Caleb Martin in a potential deal, but the Heat have reservations about this. Despite this, it appears that Portland has not received an offer from any other team that surpasses what Miami is willing to offer for the veteran guard.

If Lillard remains with the Blazers when the preseason begins, it is expected that he will report to training camp despite his prior trade request.
