WATCH: Mercedes man loses wedding ring in the waters of the Yas Marina Circuit as dive masters try to retrieve it
One of the Mercedes mechanics had a mishap at the Abu Dhabi GP as he had to call upon a diver to retrieve his lost wedding ring.

The Formula 1 2023 season has now come to an end but the drama is hardly getting over anytime soon. Even though the last race of the year saw minimal incidences, the paddock was ripe with the discussions of Red Bull Boss Christian Horner claiming that Mercedes’ marqueé driver Lewis Hamilton approached the Austrian outfit for a seat due to their Championship-winning cars. The back and forth between Red Bull and Mercedes went on until Horner clarified his stance on the situation at one of the Abu Dhabi conferences. But now, Mercedes are embroiled in yet another incident that involves a lost wedding ring.
It might look like the racers in Formula 1 are the only ones who fight for the Champions title. B the truth is that, behind those drivers, there are many mechanics who work day and night without enjoying the limelight. And upon successfully ending their season on a high with P2 in the Constructors’ Championship over Ferrari, the mechanics from the Mercedes garage were in the mood to celebrate after the Abu Dhabi GP. Hence, they were having some fun in the ‘marina’ as they shoved one of the mechanics into the waters at the Yas Marina Circuit.
But the trouble began when the mechanic lost his wedding ring in the marina. An actual diver in a full snorkeling suit had to be called to try and retrieve the lost wedding ring. The pictures from the hilarious incident have made it to the internet. As the ring proved to be quite an elusive one, the Brackley outfit did not restrict their attempts as a metal detector was also used to find out the whereabouts of it.
Lewis Hamilton calls 2023 ‘not the year we wanted’
Mercedes have etched their name into Formula 1 history as one of the most consistent team with back to back World Championship wins for eight years between 2013 and 2021. The Silver Arrows have been ever so dominant in the turbo-hybrid era of F1 up until Max Verstappen and his Red Bull squad squashed Mercedes’ efforts to win in 2022. Since last year, the Brackley outfit has failed to come up with a car that can win Championship titles and in 2023, they even failed to win a single Grand Prix.

Owing to the misfortunes of the recently-ended season, Lewis Hamilton took to his Instagram account to share his thoughts. He did rejoice Mercedes beating Ferrari to take P2 in the World rankings at the end of the Abu Dhabi GP but remained self-critical.
Good to take P2 in the constructors, but ultimately not the year we wanted. As for the future, myself and the team know we'll be back on top, and we know there's a lot of work to be done to make that happen. I promise you, getting there will be exhilarating, and seasons like this will make it all the more satisfying when we do.Lewis Hamilton wrote in the caption of his Instagram post.
In other news, George Russell simply got the better of his childhood idol Lewis Hamilton in the same Mercedes car at the Abu Dhabi GP. While Lewis struggled to maneuver his W-14 at the Yas Marina Street Circuit, his teammate managed to attained a podium finish to end his 2023 campaign on a high. Even last year, it was Russell who got Mercedes their only Grand Prix win in Brazil, not Lewis. Thus, it remains for the fans to see if Russell is truly going to trump Hamilton next year as well when Mercedes are able to deliver all that they promise with their W-15 racecar.
