This could come across as a bummer to many fans. Turning the clock back to August 2023, WWE swore in Chad Gable as Gunther‘s new challenger for the Intercontinental Championship. However, The Ring General looked down on the Olympian to the point that he was confident he would put Gable down within 5 minutes. That didn’t pay off too well for Gunther as he ended up having his first main roster loss, via countout.

They even had a classic showdown for the title in one of Raw’s main events. However, Chad Gable was unable to get the job done. Many fans thought that the story would continue further and might culminate at next year’s WrestleMania. However, Dave Meltzer of WON has provided a sullen update for those fanatics. He noted that WWE has seemingly dropped that plan and isn’t even heading in that direction anymore.

It would surely be a massive heartbreak for Chad Gable fans who finally thought that WWE was taking him seriously. The report further added that Julius Creed of The Creed Brothers and Brock Lesnar are the two potential names who could oust Gunther for the gold in Philadelphia. And as many fans know, Gunther has been pushing to have that gigantic bout against The Best Incarnate.

Gable’s little daughter was also brought into the storyline when he had those barn burners with The Ring General. However, it might not lead anywhere.

Does WWE have big plans for the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 40?

Gunther has held the Intercontinental title longer than anyone else in history. He has put down numerous challengers to this date and continues to reign strong.

That makes one wonder who will take that title off The Ring General and when. It’s believed that WWE would want Gunther to step into WrestleMania 40 as the champion. As stated above, WWE might finally bring Brock Lesnar into the fray.

The fans have been eagerly waiting to see these two goliaths slug it out inside the squared circle. This year in the men’s Royal Rumble match, when Gunther and Lesnar came face-to-face, the crowd erupted in rhapsody to see them throw some daggers.
