“Can Tatum or Brown do that?”: Former Boston Celtics legend Cedric Maxwell backs up Jayson Tatum

Jayson Tatum against Minnesota Timberwolves

Boston Celtics have been lined up with young talent. One of this is the Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown duo. After a slacked and slowed down mid-season, the team is back on terms of winning once again. They finally look like they’re that Eastern Conference team that went to the Conference finals last season. They had one of the best games against Minnesota Timberwolves and even surpassed the Denver Nuggets today. Jayson Tatum had one of his prolific performances etching a great game and getting his name to record books for the franchise. Cedric Maxwell defended Jayson Tatum beyond all criticisms drawing example from Michael Jordan’s career.

The Celtics ended their night with a win against Denver Nuggets with 87-105. Nikola Jokic ended his night with a triple double. He had 17-points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds to his name before the match ended. Even Michael Porter Jr. had s double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Despite that, Celtics gathered up for a tough game. Jayson Tatum was inspirational. Ever since his 53-point game performance, he has been absolutely unstoppable. Tatum ended his nigh with 28-points and 10 rebounds while Brown had 20 points. Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart registered 14-points each.

Jayson Tatum draws comparison against Goat Michael Jordan

With their recent victory over Timberwolves, Tatum lined an impeccable scoring record of 52-points. He thus became another young player in Celtics franchise to record 50+ points in a single game. Former Celtics veteran player Cedric Maxwell supported Tatum against all odds.

According to Maxwell, “Michael Jordan’s arguably one of the greatest players to ever play the game,” he started off. “But, how long did it take him to win? He didn’t win immediately when he came in and people had dubbed him for a while as a guy who couldn’t win it. They said, “He’s individual but he doesn’t make guys around him better” and then all of a sudden he’s the greatest, now, since he made guys around him better. Can Tatum or Brown do that?”

Cedric stated Jordan as an example to prove the very fact that Tatum cannot become a star overnight. He has still a lot to improve on before being compared to the greatest in the game.

He added, “There’s a legion of guys out there that are not fond of Jayson Tatum and what he’s done so far this year. I’ve said before, we don’t know how COVID’s affected Jayson Tatum because there was one game in particular where he said, I was playing against Washington and I couldn’t breathe. “It went on from that to, “Jayson Tatum’s not a leader, Tatum’s not this, Brown’s not that,” and it’s like, calm down.”

Jayson Tatum has been around huge debate for his underwhelming performance throughout. Just a recent game got him hyped once again. It a long way for the Celtics to catch up.
