Mercedes in Portugal GP

Lewis Hamilton claimed the second win of his season, as he won the Portugal GP, extending his lead at the top of the championship to 8 points. Another title protagonist, Max Verstappen took the second spot, as Valtteri Bottas finished on the third spot.

However, none of the drivers who finished on the podium on Sunday, were voted as the Driver of the Day. Sergio Perez started the race from the fourth spot, and ended on the same position, despite a few hiccups. Perez was voted as the Driver of the Day at the Portugal GP for his amazing drive, as he continued with the same set of tyres for 51 laps.

Sergio Perez voted as Driver of the Day

Sergio Perez was out there on the track, with the same set of tyres for almost 51 laps. That was a strategic move from Red Bull, as they wanted to buy some time for Max Verstappen, who was chasing Lewis Hamilton.

However, Hamilton surpassed Perez rather comfortably, and won the race eventually. Sergio Perez recorded his best finish in a Red Bull car, finishing P4 in Portugal. He was unlucky at the Imola GP, as he finished P11, despite starting from the front row.

In the first race of the season, Sergio Perez finished P5, after an amazing recovery drive. The Mexican started from the bottom of the grid, but made a quick recovery. He was also voted as the Driver of the Day in Bahrain.
