Daniel Ricciardo and Valtteri Bottas have been competing at the pinnacle of motor racing for a long time. Both are multiple Grand Prix winners, but for one reason or the other, their careers have been on a downward slope.
While their on-track performances have not been up to standards, they have been very much in the eyes of the public for their off-track shenanigans. Valtteri Bottas has been supporting the mullet and moustache since the start of the campaign, and Daniel Ricciardo on his end, has also been keeping up with his off-track antics.
All these things have not sat well with the former racing team owner, Frans Verschuur. He has recently taken a brutal jibe at both drivers for their off-track shenanigans.
What he (Valtteri Bottas) is doing does not belong in Formula 1, and he drives like a newspaper. Do you know how many talents there are? He can work in the circus with [Daniel] Ricciardo, two clowns together. First drive fast, then humor.Frans Verschuur said in an interview with Ziggo Sport Race Cafe
Bottas left Mercedes at the end of the 2021 F1 season, since then, he has been tussling in the midfield and has been slipping backward. Sauber has a terrible car and this is also one of the reasons why he is yet to score a point this year. In Ricciardo’s case, the Aussie has been so far outperformed by his younger teammate, Yuki Tsunoda.
Could Valtteri Bottas head back to Mercedes?
While Bottas has been bashed by Verschuur for his on-track performances, he is one of the many drivers who does not have a contract for next year. The 10-time Grand Prix winner has been linked with various teams and amidst all this, Ex-F1 driver, Jaques Villeneuve has come up with an interesting prospect.

Villeneuve feels Bottas could head back to Mercedes at least for the 2025 season.
I guess Bottas will go to Mercedes. They want a driver for one year. So who do they take? They take a driver who will take a one-year deal, knows the team, experience, and prepares the seat for Antonelli.Jacques Villeneuve via Sky F1
Looking at the reaction of the 1997 world champion, it seems that Valtteri Bottas could be seen donning the famous black gear of Mercedes again. If this happens to be the case, then he would join up with George Russell, for whom, he had to vacate the Mercedes seat at the end of 2021 in the first place.
