Novak Djokovic will face Taylor Fritz for the second time this year in the semifinals of the Rolex Shanghai Masters. The Spaniard has proved that the ATP Masters 1000 event is truly a home for him. Despite being absent from China for five years, on his return, he defeated his four opponents.
In Shanghai, Fritz has bounced back from his early exit in the Japan Open. He has yet to drop a set in the tournament. The American is seeking his third title of the season and his first Masters 1000 this year.

Novak Djokovic is yet to win any tour-level title this season but has shown his class on the court. However, he claimed his elusive gold medal at the Paris Olympics after beating Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. He failed to continue with the form, exiting from the US Open in the third round. Nevertheless, at Shanghai, the 37-year-old looks like a better version of himself this year.
He opened his campaign with a 7-6 (3), 7-6 (9) against American Alex Michelsen. In the next round, he cruised past Flavio Cobolli in a straight set. Roman Safiullin didn’t offer much challenge to Djokovic, as he was swept away 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Jakub Mensik proved to be a tough nut to crack for Djokovic. The 19-year-old caused the 37-year-old several problems, but Djokovic showed strength, winning 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-4.
On the other hand, Taylor Fritz has been at his absolute best in the past two months. The American finished as runners-up in the US Open after losing to Jannik Sinner in straight sets. He won two matches for Team World at the Laver Cup, but that was not enough for them to win the title. At the Japan Open, the 26-year-old suffered his second loss in three tournaments.
Japan Open champion Arthur Fils defeated the American in the first round. However, Fritz has done well to bounce back at the Shanghai Masters. He ousted Terence Atmane, Yosuke Watanuki, Holger Rune, and David Goffin in straight sets to reach the semifinals.
