A total of six goals were scored as Liverpool was held to a frustrating draw at St. James’ Park. Despite Liverpool’s stunning form, Newcastle United went all-in from the start. After Alexis Mac Allister hit the outside of the post, Newcastle also saw a shot from Jacob Murphy suffer the same fate.
However, the hosts managed to take the lead in the 35th minute through Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker scored one of the best goals of his season, with Virgil van Dijk handed a front seat view.
The player picked up the ball on the run outside the penalty area before twisting Van Dijk inside out. Isak’s powerful shot evaded Caoimhin Kelleher before making its way into the top right corner. Curtis Jones equalized for the visitors before Anthony Gordon restored the advantage for the home side.

Mohamed Salah‘s right-footed strike brought parity again before he handed the Reds the lead with a beautiful shot on the turn, 15 minutes after his first. As Liverpool hung on to the narrow lead, up stepped Fabian Schar at the far post to turn in a hopeful cross from Bruno Guimaraes in the 90th minute. Despite the result, Liverpool remains top of the table with 35 points from 14 games.
Arne Slot makes hopeful Mo Salah claim after stunning brace
Whenever Liverpool needs a goal, the club turns to Mohamed Salah. This has been a recurring storyline for the Reds, as it holds a firm grip on the top spot. However, the club has to sort out a big problem—Salah’s contract situation. While several reports claim that the player is on his way out at the end of the season, others claim that he is willing to pen a one-year extension.

Speaking to the press after the game, Arne Slot spoke positively about Salah and his future.
We are hoping and expecting that Mo Salah can continue this for a long time. He was outstanding in the second half and did many things for us.

The Dutchman has now suffered a second draw with Liverpool and is yet to lose a game since the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in September.

Liverpool’s next game in the League is against local rivals Everton, who is in 15th position with 14 points. Liverpool now has a seven-point lead in the Premier League heading into matchday 15.
