Wimbledon 2021: Ash Barty storms into the quarterfinals with a win over Barbora Krejcikova

World No.1 Ash Barty showcased her dominance once again as she battled past 14th seed Barbora Krejcikova on Court No.1. The Australian defeated the in form Czech in straight sets 7-5,6-3. Barty had never made past the fourth round at Wimbledon before. Her previous best performance was at the 2019 edition where she bowed out of the fourth round.

The Aussie is one of the strongest favorites to win the title at SW19 this week after the exit of most of the top female players in the initial rounds. She will face either Emma Raducanu or Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Barty was on song against Krejcikova right from the start. She was serving well and was taking the rallies deep. Krejcikova too, didn’t make life easy for Barty as she kept the pressure on during her service games. But a late break in the set was all Barty needed as she won it 7-5.

The second set was more towards Barty’s side as she was carrying momentum. Although Krejcikova gave her all, but a surge from Barty saw her getting the decisive break as she sealed the set 6-3.

‘She is on the toughest players to beat’: Barty on Krejcikova

In the post match interview, Barty parised Krejcikova and said that she is one of the toughest players to beat. “Incredibly tough match. Barbora has had an incredible year. She is on the toughest players to beat. I am excited for the challenge to come. I feel like I found some pretty good stuff when I needed it the most which is great.”

The top seed then also revealed where she gets so much confidence from. “I get the confidence from all the work that I do with my team, behind the scenes on the training court and this is the fun part. This is where I get to come out here and enjoy myself as much as I can. It is frustrating at times but I love coming out here and there is no other place in the world I’d rather be.”

Barty will face either Raducanu or Tomljanovic in the quarters but didn’t had a preference to whom she’d like to play. “Both will be incredibly exciting for different reasons. Ajla is an Aussie… I am just looking forward to enjoy that one like you guys will. It’s going to be a hell of a match and there are going to bring the very best out of each other.”
