Wimbledon 2021: Aryna Sabalenka powers into her maiden grand slam semifinal, thrashes Ons Jabeur

World No.4, Aryna Sabalenka storms into the semifinal of Wimbledon 2021 after she beat Tunisian Ons Jabeur on centre court. Sabalenka got the better of Jabeur in straight sets 6-4,6-3. Sabalenka had never gone beyond the second round at Wimbledon but the Belarussian seems to be a woman on a mission this year at The Championships.
The second seed showcased her power against Jabeur, hitting baseline winners left, right and centre. She dominated the first set on serve. The Tunisian too matched Sabalenka with baseline strokes early on but a few unforced errors at crucial times cost her a break. Sabalenka capitalised on Jabeur’s errors and stormed with the first set 6-4.
The Tunisian did everything possible to bounce back and even staged a mini-comeback, but she had no answers to Sabalenka’s raw power and godlike returns. The World No.4 got the decisive break soon and consolidated it to win the set 6-3. She will now face Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals on Thursday.

In the on court interview, Sabalenka praised Jabeur and thanked the fan. She said: “I’m really happy with this win. It’s always a tough match against Ons. She’s such a great player, amazing person so it’s tough to play against her. And I’m really happy that I could win today.” She also addressed the fans, “Guys, you make this place special. Thank you so much for your support. The atmosphere was unbelievable today, Thank you.”
Sabalenka is a better clay court player and shared about her playstyle on grass. “Sometimes its really tricky on grass. It’s tough to hit shots at times but I’m really happy that I’m here and I somehow find a way to win the matches here. This surface is amazing and I’m enjoying every second on the court.”
Sabalenka will play Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals on Tuesday against whom she has a great record. “It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past. In tennis you never know, especially on WTA tour what’s gonna happen. It is going to be a tough match and she’s a good player. She’s serving well and her game suits grass so it’s going to be really tough and I’m looking forward to win it.”
