A video of Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head, refusing to click pictures with a group of fans in public, has gone viral over social media. The 31-year-old Australian’s rejection of the fans’ advances has sparked frenzy, and left social media users in splits.
Travis Head has not been experiencing the best of his time on the pitch, unlike the 2024 IPL season. He did start the season with a bang, scoring 67 runs off just 31 balls in SRH’s opening IPL encounter against Rajasthan Royals. In a match that was dominated by Ishan Kishan’s maiden IPL hundred, SRH went on to post a massive total of 286 runs, falling one run short of their IPL record.
The Orange Army ultimately won the match against RR by a comfortable margin of 44 runs. However, since then, the 2024 IPL finalists have failed to live up to expectations.
SRH remains at the bottom of the IPL table, having lost four matches in a row, following the opening win. The Orange Army, led by skipper Pat Cummins, only have two points from five matches till now.
Travis Head, who ended as the fourth-highest run-getter in the IPL last season, has only scored 148 runs in five matches this time out. He has played at a poor average of 29.60 and a strike rate of 189.74. The 31-year-old Aussie has registered scores of 22, 4 and 8 in his last three encounters for SRH, failing to help his side repeat its successes from last season.

After another batting meltdown vs KKR, even Cummins admits: "Maybe we needed better options."

Amid struggles on the pitch, the dynamic opener has now embroiled himself into a unwanted controversy, involving fans, off the pitch. Head was most recently captured in a video, at a shopping mall in Hyderabad, as he took time off the IPL to buy groceries. After being noticed, the Australian World Cup winner was approached by a girl who wished to take a selfie with him.

However, to her utter surprise, Head politely denied the young girl’s request. Despite the request being denied, the group of fans kept persisting for pictures and an interaction with the player, who tried to walk away. They even recorded Head’s actions on their phones, later expressing frustration over what they described as the Australian star’s ‘attitude’.
Sorry @TravisHead24 but you deserve this. Thekind of gesture you show inneecent past. You definitely deserves it. What goes around comes around. #karma

The 31-year-old denied the fans’ requests, despite being informed that the Hyderabadi people love and support him dearly. The video sparked a debate on social media, with many questioning the player’s attitude. However, several others have criticized the fan behavior, while highlighting the importance of respecting a player’s boundaries and personal space, off the field.
Travis Head hails India’s white-ball team, claims they will keep being the ‘best’ team
Australian opener Travis Head candidly discussed the challenges of competing against the formidable Indian team, and the reasons behind the intense rivalry of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Head also talked about the influential roles of Virat Kohli and Steve Smith, in refining his game-play strategy.

Acknowledging India’s white-ball dominance, Head referred to the Men in Blue as the strongest team. The SRH opener noted that Australia has faced India in two recent finals. Moreover, Travis Head highlighted the importance of performing well against the Men in Blue, while anticipating that the team would continue to rule over the game for the years to come, and make future ICC final appearances.
They’ve always been the strongest team… They’re going to consistently be the best team. It won’t stop. They’ll probably continually be playing in the finals of ICC events.

Nonetheless, Head’s unmatched praise for the Indian national team is owing to the fact that the team has won two successive ICC trophies. The Men in Blue claimed the 2024 T20 World Cup, followed by the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, and have their eyes set on winning the upcoming ICC titles.
