Lewis Hamilton’s debut with Ferrari was extremely disappointing as he failed to amass any notable results. Despite massive hopes banked on him, Hamilton could only achieve a sprint win in the first five races. The 40-year-old’s form doesn’t seem to be improving, more so due to Ferrari’s mediocre form. Now, ex-F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari made a bold statement on the seven-time champion’s future with the Italian constructor.
Ralf Schumacher had recently provided an ultimatum on Lewis Hamilton’s future with Ferrari amidst woeful results. Hamilton currently has a two-year deal with Maranello and is likely to honor that deal. However, if the Italian constructor does not find immediate improvements, the Briton might consider exiting the sport completely. To make matters worse, the 40-year-old is also consistently outscored by his Monegasque counterpart Charles Leclerc.
If Ferrari fails to help Lewis Hamilton contend for the drivers’ title, he is likely to quit the team earlier than expected. Jaime Alguersuari pointed out that he had a feeling that Hamilton would quit the team before the upcoming season. Alguersuari accepted that his take was controversial and did not make much sense when viewed objectively. The Spaniard asserts that he is taking a ‘risk’ by guessing the 40-year-old’s early departure from the Scuderia.
I have the feeling that Hamilton is going to leave, I don’t know why I’m taking a risk by saying this.
Jaime Alguersuari said on the After Lap podcast
The 35-year-old didn’t hesitate to claim that Hamilton’s time in Formula 1 had already passed. Alguersuari noted that the Briton had already won a lot and didn’t need to prove anything by winning with Ferrari. The seven-time champion is likely to consider racing in 2026 to see if the Italian constructor’s form improves under the newer regulations of the coming year. Still, the 40-year-old might not push for a contract extension beyond his current tenure if the team does not improve its form soon.
But I have the feeling that his time has passed, that he’s already won a lot, that he’s already won everything and that he’s saying: ‘OK, I’ve gone to Ferrari to try and see what happens in 2026.’

Jaime Alguersuari declares Ferrari ‘not a winning team’
Ferrari is one of the most historic teams in Formula 1, having achieved monumental success in the past. However, the Italian constructor has not tasted championship victory since 2008. The Scuderia has come extremely close to winning both championships, but has not been able to emerge victorious in the end. Hence, Jaime Alguersuari fired further shots at the Reds and made an astounding remark on their winning chances.

Jaime Alguersuari pointed out that Ferrari was not a winning team despite winning multiple races over the years. The Spaniard recalled that the team had not won any championships since the 2008 season. The 35-year-old acknowledged that the Scuderia might have a competitive car on the grid as compared to the rivals. Still, Alguersuari reiterated that they weren’t a winning team, and this was the difference between Ferrari and its rivals.
Ferrari is not a winning team. A team is a team that wins races, but it is not a winning team. They have not won since 2008, So they may have a competitive car, they may have a competitive team, but they don’t have a winning team. There is a difference.
Jaime Alguersuari noted
Ferrari must find immediate results to retain Lewis Hamilton’s interest in the team for the upcoming seasons. The team is already way behind the leading pack in the championship standings. Time will tell about how the Italian constructor fares against the massive hopes banked in them by the Tifosi. As things currently are, the Scuderia is in for a rude awakening as they might lose the contention early on in the 2025 season.
