Andy Murray rather wanted Mirra Andreeva to have her eyes fixed when she called him “beautiful” two years ago. Andreeva reminisced about the tweet after knocking out Magdalena Frech 7-5, 6-3 in the third round of the Madrid Open.
While Andreeva is hoping to clinch the Madrid Open for the first time, Murray, the winner of two Madrid Open titles, saw his protege, that is his longtime rival Novak Djokovic, crash out of his opening round after his defeat to Matteo Arnaldi. In 2023, after beating Magda Linette in the Madrid Open third round on her 16th birthday, Andreeva’s face lit up when she talked about Murray.
This prompted the latter to come up with a hilarious response. She recalled that incident when the host of Madrid Open’s Iguales podcast asked her how she felt when she saw Murray’s tweet about her.
Well, I did the interview with Tennis Channel and that’s where I said he looks handsome. I still think that he looks handsome…so yeah, after that, I don’t even remember how I saw his tweet. I think Erika [her sister] showed it to me and I was like…I didn’t think that he would even see and listen to what I saw. So, for me to see him tweet was super, super unexpected.

The three-time Grand Slam champion hung up his racket at the Paris Olympics last year and nearly four months later, he joined Djokovic’s team. Under him, the Serb’s best result came at the Miami Open as he reached the final, though he failed to become the third man with 100 or more ATP titles due to his defeat to Jakub Mensik.
Mirra Andreeva is very careful about what she consumes after two high-profile doping cases
The doping cases of Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek shook the tennis world last year. Both the players were the victims of unintentional contamination, but as they didn’t get harsher punishment unlike many other innocent players in the past, it sparked a massive backlash.

The consequence of the two high-profile doping cases was that players have become more careful about what they eat and drink. Carlos Alcaraz has admitted declining drinks due to fear of contamination, while Aryna Sabalenka too has become more cautious. Now Mirra Andreeva revealed what she does to avoid being a victim of accidental contamination.
I always watch what I eat, what I drink. I even have my own bottle of water in my room, and I don’t let anyone drink from it. If, for example, my dad wants to drink from it, I stop him. I know that he doesn’t take any medication, but I do it to be absolutely sure.

Swiatek and Sinner have tested positive for trimetazidine and clostebol, respectively. Clostebol entered Sinner’s body during physiotherapy sessions, while in Swiatek’s case, it was contaminated melatonin medication that she was consuming.
Mirra Andreeva is chasing her third WTA 1000 title of her career
Andreeva is the winner of three singles titles, two of which were WTA 1000 ones. These two titles of the 1000 category she lifted this year at the Dubai Open and the Indian Wells, beating Clara Tauson and Aryna Sabalenka, respectively.

Andreeva is now inching closer to her third WTA 1000 title. If she is successful in knocking out qualifier Yuliia Starodubtseva in the fourth round, she could set up a quarterfinal clash with 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff, who is eyeing revenge on Belinda Bencic after her Indian Wells fourth-round defeat to the 2021 Olympic champion. Gauff holds a 2-0 head-to-head record over the 17-year-old.
