The Indy 500 is considered the ‘greatest spectacle of racing.’ The race at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway is one of the most highly anticipated events in the motorsport calendar. The 500 is also part of motorsport’s unofficial triple crown, alongside the Monaco GP and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch had often shown interest in competing in Indy, but to no avail. Nevertheless, the RCR star still has hopes of making it to the race in the future.
The Indianapolis race takes place in the month of May, around the same time as NASCAR’s Coca Cola 600. This makes it a challenge for NASCAR drivers who would need to do double duty in order to fulfil their commitments for both races. However, for someone like Kyle Busch, this only makes the challenge even more exciting.
Recently, Busch revealed that he had not given up on his desire to do double duty with the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600. However, the 40-year-old confessed that he was not getting phone calls from teams in IndyCar to compete in the ‘greatest spectacle of racing,’ next year just yet.
Moreover, Kyle Busch indirectly blamed Kyle Larson, claiming that the latter took up the seat he was going to get in the past two years at the 500. Larson will be making a second attempt in Indianapolis this year with Arrow McLaren. This will be his last attempt for the time being.
I wouldn’t say I’ve given up on but the phone hasn’t been ringing so. So yeah I think Larson got the seat that I was supposed to get for the last two years now.
Kyle Busch told FOX.

Kyle Busch ready to hold talks for 2026 Indy 500
With Kyle Larson seemingly taking himself out of the ring for the 500 after this year, this could allow Busch to finally get a shot at the 500 as early as next year. The 40-year-old’s brother Kurt Busch had done double duty in 2014 when he competed in the Indy 500 and the Coca Cola 600.

The RCR star opened up about the timeline for such a possibility. Kyle Busch revealed that drivers usually get in touch with IndyCar teams around July, when such conversations begin. While the deals are finalized around December, giving the driver and team five months before the start of the 500. Although, Busch himself has not begun talks with any team as of yet.
I’m not sure, haven’t really ventured into that. Those conversations pretty much take place [in] July, August of each year and they try to get done before December.
Kyle Busch added.
Certainly, Kyle Busch does want to make it to the Indy 500. Winning the prestigious race would add to his long achievements in the world of NASCAR. Double Duty would only make the races more thrilling for the 40-year-old who would need to adapt to two completely different cars in a matter of hours at two big events.
