Very few stay more strict to their faith and religion than the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov himself. The fighter is a devoted Muslim who follows his religious obligations seriously and credits God for every ounce of success. According to the fighter, his deep-rooted Islamic faith remains one of the biggest reasons behind his unmatched discipline and career success.

That faith also brings a set of rules, traditional values, and ideals including clear religious views and teachings about homosexuality. Recently, popular Spanish YouTuber, Flexcidine, went to Dagestan to meet Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev. Later during an podcast, the BJJ content creator mentioned that he won’t be able to train with the ‘Eagle’ due to miscommunication related to his gender.

If I return to Dagestan, I will most likely be able to train with Islam again. It’s completely impossible for me to see Khabib again, until the day I die. For the simple fact that he thinks I’m gay…. Khabib who’s is super religious. He has hard time keeping eye contact with me. I swear bro, he couldn’t look at me because he thought I was f*** gay. It’s over. That’s it.

Flexcidine recently created a humorous YouTube video where he jokingly pretended to kiss his training partner. Nurmagomedov reportedly watched the video, misunderstood its intent, and assumed Flexcidine was homosexual, taking the joke quite seriously and personally. Although Flexcidine took photos with both Khabib and Makhachev during their meeting, things became awkward shortly after the brief encounter ended.

Later, Flexcidine’s manager received a direct message warning them never to arrange another meeting with the undefeated former UFC lightweight champion. However, instead of taking it the wrong way, the influencer joked about it and respected Nurmagomedov’s personal preferences. Throughout his legendary career, the ‘Eagle’ has always been respected by his peers and fans for his honesty.

Despite being a foreigner, the US audience accepted Nurmagomedov for his dominance and humble personality. However, this never changed his roots as the fighter didn’t forget his values that were given his father and upbringing in Dagestan. In an interview with Patrick Bet-David, the legend talked about facing problems due to homosexuality in the US.

I see only women and men. There is no between. You know this is like crazy, it’s like first time in my life, couple of weeks ago. I was in California, I was in coffee shop, like I really wanna go bathroom…two bathroom, ‘all gender’, ‘all gender’. I was like, ‘What is this? Where I have to go?’…I grew up in very traditional, in very traditional family. I’m very happy with this. I’m from big mountains and we have only two genders

Nurmagomedov has expressed traditional views on gender roles, stating women should prioritize family duties rather than pursuing a fighting career. He once said women belong at home to serve their husbands, which sparked backlash from fans who viewed the comment as sexist. Despite his dominance in MMA, many criticized Nurmagomedov’s stance as outdated and dismissive of talented female fighters in the sport.

Throughout his career, Nurmagomedov maintained strict religious values and has never physically touched a woman outside his family. As a result, he has conducted very few interviews with women, often opting for male journalists and media professionals instead.
