Reigning world champion Max Verstappen is having a difficult campaign in 2025. Red Bull has a significant gap to McLaren in terms of car performance. This has translated to on-track results, with Verstappen only winning one out of the first six races. However, the Dutchman took a surprise win at the Emilia Romagna GP last weekend. This has given the Red Bull star some much needed confidence in the car.

During the Emilia Romagna GP, Max Verstappen took the lead from pole-sitter Oscar Piastri at the start with an impressive move. The four-time world champion managed to create a massive gap to his rivals over the course of the race, with a 25 second lead at one stage. Even after a late Safety Car, Verstappen managed to retain his lead and win the race comfortably due to his on-track pace.

Max Verstappen insisted that winning the race was the perfect start to the triple header. The 27-year-old revealed that Milton Keynes has been working hard behind-the-scenes. This has allowed Verstappen to finally be comfortable with the car, something that was missing earlier this year. So much so, that the Dutch driver claimed that he was much more optimistic about the team’s future. This comment is significant since it is rumored that the F1 star could leave Red Bull after the end of 2025.

It was fantastic to start the triple appointment with a victory on Sunday in Imola – we have made many steps forward, I felt much more comfortable on the car and this puts us in a more positive position for the future.

Max Verstappen expects difficult Monaco GP

The Monaco GP is unlike any other round on the F1 calendar. The crown jewel of the sport is a fan favourite race, despite the tight nature of the track making it difficult to overtake. Before the ground-effect era of Formula 1, Monaco was Red Bull’s strongest track as Milton Keynes had the best chassis on the grid but lacked power. However, things have changed in recent years.

Max Verstappen pointed out that the race in Monte Carlo will be difficult since it is a narrow street circuit. The Dutchman highlighted that Red Bull has struggled here in recent years as its cars are not as strong in such conditions as McLaren. Nevertheless, Verstappen made it clear that he will be pushing himself to the limit. Moreover, the 27-year-old pointed out that Qualifying will play a decisive role, as is the case at this track. Though, Red Bull will need to also work on the right strategy to truly give its star driver a shot at victory.

We will have to continue to push and not mount our heads, because Monaco will be a little more difficult, being a city circuit. In the past it was not our best track, but we went a step further with the set up and we will try to do our best. Again, qualifications are essential and we rely on strategy, so on Saturday we will have to get a good result and get the best possible performance out of the car.

Max Verstappen explained

Max Verstappen understands that the Monaco GP will not be easy even if he took a dominant win at Imola. The four-time world champion remains realistic about his prospects at the street circuit. Though, the Monte Carlo race rewards drivers who push themselves to the edge with no margin for error, something that Verstappen is known for. Thus, fans cannot rule out the Red Bull star just yet.
