NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. played significant role in getting the iconic North Wilkesboro Speedway back to the schedule. It has been hosting the All-Star race since 2024, and is expected to continue being $1 million race venue or will finally get the much-deserved point paying race slot, as it’s best short track of the Next-Gen era.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the latest episode of his podcast asked NASCAR to give the Xfinity Series drivers the chance to experience North Wilkesboro, by hosting a point-paying race. The JR Motorsports co-owner, who is also a two times champion in the second tier of stock car racing, that he always wants to have NWS in the Xfinity season schedule.

There’s been a lot of conversation about the Xfinity Series racing at North Wilkesboro. There’s not much to that. If they put a race there, I’ll run it. I said that years ago, I said that when Wilkesboro came back. I said it every year. That’s not a new bit of information.

He then named Martinville as the track he wants to get replaced and got a solid reason to replace the iconic track. Junior pointed out that the race at Martinsville over the years has been wreck fests, and he is disappointed with the bills piling up because of the race. Hence, he wants the latter gone from the schedule for good.

I’d rather have an Xfinity race there than Martinsville. That s**t we’re doing at Martinsville is for the birds. I don’t love taking my cars over there and watching them get destroyed and watching our drivers destroy each other. So, I’d love them to not go to Martinsville and go to Wilkesboro. That’d be better.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. added.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has lost confidence in Martinsville

Despite being an iconic track, and the grandfather clock being something many drivers wants to win, Junior doesn’t have much faith on the track when it comes to Xfinity Series races. He believes the track is being forgotten by the race fans when it comes the second-tier races, as it no longer produces entertaining races.

I have zero confidence that our Xfinity drivers can have a good, entertaining race at Martinsville. Maybe there was one and I’ve just forgotten because of so much destruction has happened. It’s washed it from my memory.

Dale Earnhardt said.

The comments from the Hall of Famer seriously concerning, considering the fact that the Cup and Truck Series races are comparably better at the track. The Xfinity Series fans deserve better race product and considering what Junior highlighted, it might be the time for NASCAR to move to another venue.

North Wilkesboro seems to be the right choice, considering the confidence shown by the HOF driver as well as the whole Cup garage after the All-Star race. It would be interesting to see how long it will take the sanctioning body to pull the plug on the Martinsville race and give NWS the much deserves opportunity.
