The UFC welterweight division has had three champions in recent years that reflects the division’s volatility. Moreover, the unpredictability every time two top contenders clash inside the octagon also stuns the MMA community from time to time. Recently, Belal Muhammad lost his title, but Joe Rogan‘s commentary partner, Jon Anik, revealed that the fighter has a big fight lined up next.
At UFC 315, Muhammad lost to Jack Della Maddalena‘s superior striking and well-rounded game plan as the Aussie star completely outclassed ‘Bully B. This decisively cost the Palestinian-American the fight and his championship. Anik recently revealed on his podcast that Muhammad’s next fight is scheduled against another dangerous, highly ranked welterweight contender.

Muhammad and Shavkat Rakhmonov were originally booked to fight at UFC 310, but unfortunate circumstances forced a last-minute cancellation. Muhammad suffered a severe toe injury before the bout, and the damage was so intense it nearly led to amputation. As a result, Rakhmonov faced top contender Ian Garry instead, enduring an exceptionally tough and competitive fight inside the octagon.
Rakhmonov won the fight but the invincible aura around him surely took a hit, after nearly getting submitted by Garry. Following that fight, he got injured and couldn’t fight Muhammad at UFC 315. Instead Della Maddalena was given the opportunity. Nevertheless, fans are now excited for the official announcement of Muhammad vs. Rakhmonov and it seems ‘Remember The Name’ is ready too.
Belal Muhammad hasn’t given upon on title contention
Heading into UFC 315, Belal Muhammad was the clear betting favorite after dominating former champion Leon Edwards at UFC 304. Despite his success, Muhammad has often faced criticism for not finishing opponents, a narrative he was determined to rewrite completely.
Muhammad keeps claiming he chose abandon his usual wrestling-heavy gamelan, yet he still shot for 9 takedowns. Muhammad did pursue a striking-focused approach in hopes of silencing all his critics. However, going blow for blow against someone with elite boxing skills like JDM was a disaster.

Unfortunately, the strategy backfired, as Muhammad strayed from his team’s original game plan and ultimately paid the price. Despite the loss, Muhammad believed the fight was close and felt proud of his striking, planning to keep improving it. He remains highly motivated to reclaim the title, something he passionately expressed during his appearance on the Remember The Show.
I’m one fight away from winning the belt. I’m one fight away from being there. I’m not stupid. I’m not going to sit there and think, ‘Oh, I’m going to wait for a rematch.’ I want to get back up. I want to beat one of these guys that’s a No. 1 contender. I want to show you guys that I’m still the best in the world. I want to show them, ‘Who are you going to put in front of me and watch what I do.
Muhammad explained that he still wanted to pursue his goal of beating the GOAT Georges St-Pierre‘s welterweight legacy. He mentioned that the welterweight division was filled with several top contenders such as Ian Garry, Sean Brady etc. On top of that, he would have a close look on the upcoming fight between Kamaru Usman and Joaquin Buckley.
Usman and Muhammad have an ongoing beef that gone ugly over the time as observed by their online exchanges. Recently, Henry Cejudo revealed a secret brawl that took place between both the fighters on the Pound 4 Pound Podcast. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to whether ‘Bully B’ gets to settle his beef or gets the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov next.
