Coming into the 2025 Coca-Cola 600 last Sunday, Kyle Busch had a lot hopes and expectations with the 600 miles event offering space to make mistakes. Him signing a one-year contract extension with Richard Childress Racing ahead of the race weekend, made it a race for him to produce a statement performance.
But it was yet another disappointment for Kyle Busch as he finished the race P15, adding another race to his growing list of winless runs. He hasn’t won a single race since the second half of the 2023 Cup season and in moments he came close to winning, mistakes from himself or his No:8 Chevy crew ruined his chances.
Talking about the difficult run on Sunday, Busch admitted that he feels like a broken record at the moment, showing he has lost some of the momentum and confidence from the contract extension. The steering issue at the start of the race and starting the race at the back of the grid owing to un-approved changes cost him big time.
I feel like a broken record saying another difficult night for our No. 8 Chevrolet team. The weekend started out with a steering issue. We got the pump changed and were able to make a qualifying lap, but had to change the rack and got to the rear for the start of the race on Sunday.
Kyle Busch told Dustin Long of NBC Sports.
The dirty air and Crew chief Randall Burnett’s changes not having the expected effect left the driver in a pickle. The issue at the pit-road, which has been a haunting issue for them for over the last two years, also ruined their chances. Ging into next weekend race at Nashville, Busch will be hoping that the streak will end for good.
We were tight in dirty air. Crew chief Randall Burnett made some changes and got it running better when I heard a loud pop. Something broke, and we’re still not sure what it was. From that point on, we were just out of it. We tried a strategy call late in the race, but we had an issue on pit road, so we weren’t really able to capitalize on that.
Kyle Busch added.
Richard Childress has championship hopes on Kyle Busch
Following the contract extension, team’s owner and CEO Rochard Childress shared his expectations for the driver. He believes, Busch is a driver capable enough to get them their first championship since Dale Sr. They are doing some new things to accomplish these goals and that gives him more excitement about the future.

I still think Kyle will win him a championship, and we’re going to have it at RCR. That’s our plans. We’ve got a lot of new things coming. This car is a lot different. It’s so engineer-driven that we’re stepping our engineering up more. And I’m excited about the future of where we can go.
Richard Childress said.
The comments from Richard Childress shows RCR signed the extension with the two times champion after the discovered some ideas that can make them better as a team. The championship at the moment is a long goal for them, but it’s not impossible considering the resources the team has at their disposal.
