Jannik Sinner will face his first difficult test at the Roland Garros when he takes on Andrey Rublev in the fourth round. The Italian is yet to drop a set at the tournament and is currently on a 17-match winning streak in Grand Slam events. It is also his second tournament since returning from a three-month suspension in May.

Rublev arrived in Paris after finishing as runners-up at the Hamburg Open, where he had lost to Flavio Cobolli in straight sets. The Russian star has dropped only one set at the tournament and looks to be hitting the right gear after a poor start to the clay season. He faced Sinner at the 2024 Canadian Open and defeated the Italian in three sets, he will hope to repeat the same result.

Jannik Sinner vs. Andrey Rublev: Match Preview

Jannik Sinner returned to the tour at the Rome Masters and performed as though he had never been away for three months (for twice testing positive for a banned substance). The Italian reached the final before losing to Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets. At the French Open, he opened his account with a 6-4, 6-3, 7-5 win over Arthur Rinderknech.

In the second round, he sent French legend Richard Gasquet into retirement after beating him 6-3, 6-0, 6-4. It was in the third round, he produced a near-flawless performance to stun Jiri Lehecka. The World No.1 dominated his opponent from start to finish and dropped just three games to win 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.

On the other hand, Andrey Rublev struggled to be at his best after winning the Qatar Open in February. The Russian partnered with Marat Safin to help him bounce back to form. However, there wasn’t an instant success. It was at the Hamburg Open he won four consecutive matches for the first time on clay this season.

At the French Open, he claimed his first-round victory against qualifier Lloyd Harris 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. The No.17 seed then bear Adam Walton 7-6(1), 6-1, 7-6(5) to set up a third-round showdown against Arthur Fils. Unfortunately, Fils sustained an injury during his second-round tie against Jaume Munar, which forced him to withdraw from the third round. Rublev advanced to the fourth round courtesy of a walkover.

Jannik Sinner vs. Andrey Rublev: Match Prediction

Jannik Sinner will head into the match against Rublev after a masterclass performance against Jiri Lehecka. Rublev, on the other hand, avoided a tricky opponent in the form of Fils after the Frenchman withdrew. Also, Sinner leads the Russian star 6-3 in their head-to-head record. He also leads 2-1 on clay.

The Italian won their previous encounter at the 2024 Cincinnati Open in three sets. However, Rublev is one of the four players to have beaten him last season. The World No.15 beat Sinner in the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open last year in three sets.

However, the fourth-round clash will be a tricky tie for both players. Sinner is currently playing his best tennis, while Rublev is gaining confidence after each win on the surface. The latter cannot be underestimated, as he has proven on previous occasions that he can beat top players, while the former will be counting on his incredible form on clay since his return from suspension.

Match prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in four sets.
