Novak Djokovic and Aryna Sabalenka’s celebratory dances while descending the stairs at Roland Garros have caught quite the media attention, turning into a dance battle itself. However, Roland Garros finalist Carlos Alcaraz shied away from dancing after defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals. It was also more appropriate and sportsmanlike for him to not dance, considering the nature of his victory.

Musetti unfortunately had to retire at the start of the fourth set of the semifinals due to a leg injury. Alcaraz applauded Musetti off the court after the match ended and acknowledged his brilliant run on clay this season, wherein the Italian had reached the semifinals of all the clay tournaments he had played.

WTA World No. 1 also advanced to the Roland Garros finals. This marks the first time the Belarusian has reached the finals of the Roland Garros. She will face World No. 2 Coco Gauff in the finals. The two faced each other last month at the Madrid Open finals, where Sabalenka triumphed. Akin to the women’s finals, the men’s finals will also be a battle between the World No. 1 and World No. 2.

Meanwhile, Djokovic’s quest for a 25th Grand Slam title ended at the Roland Garros semifinals with a straight-set defeat to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. Djokovic still has his chances this year to reach that milestone with Wimbledon and the US Open.

Carlos Alcaraz will face Jannik Sinner at the Roland Garros finals

The moment tennis fans have been anticipating for a long time is here, as Carlos Alcaraz will face Jannik Sinner in a Grand Slam final for the first time at the Roland Garros. Four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz is aiming to be the next person after Rafael Nadal and Gustavo Kuerten to defend the Roland Garros title this century.

Meanwhile, Sinner just reached his first Grand Slam final outside of hard court. He reached the Roland Garros finals without dropping a set en route, even bagelling three opponents on the way. The three-time Grand Slam champion has been in extremely consistent form since his return after the doping suspension. He is showing a very high level on clay, a surface on which he only has one title, and that too at an ATP 250 level.

The two last met a few weeks back at the Italian Open, where Alcaraz beat home favorite Sinner in straight sets at the finals to clinch his maiden title in Rome. That was the fourth time in a row Alcaraz had prevailed against Sinner. Alcaraz leads their head-to-head 7-4. Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-5, 7-6 (3) to book his berth in the Clay Major’s finals.

Alcaraz has had an excellent clay season, reaching the finals of all the clay tournaments he has played this year. He will be aiming for his 11th overall clay court title and his 4th title of the season at the 2025 Roland Garros.

In his semifinal match, Lorenzo Musetti took the first set 6-4, before Alcaraz fought back to take the next set at tiebreak and bagel Musetti in the third. The Italian ace began to visibly struggle with his leg in the third set.

After trailing 2-0 in the fourth, Musetti retired due to the injury, thus, letting Alcaraz advance to the finals with a scoreline of 4-6, 7-6(3), 6-0, 2-0. Musetti had faced a similar fate a few months back at the Monte Carlo Masters as well, when he played the finals against Alcaraz. The 23-year-old took the first set, but later struggled with injury.
