Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s frustrated reaction towards the umpire, following his dismissal in a match between India ‘A’ and England Lions, left fans in agony. The 23-year-old was criticized on social media, with many users questioning his ‘sportsmanship’.

Playing in the second unofficial Test for India ‘A’ against England Lions at Northampton’s County Ground, Yashasvi Jaiswal came out to open the innings, alongside KL Rahul.  However, the 23-year-old’s stay was short-lived, as he got dismissed for just 17 runs in the 7th over. Jaiswal misjudged a delivery from English pacer Chris Woakes, with the sharp inswinger hitting him on the pads as he tried to flick it.

The umpire was quick to raise his finger and signal the Indian opener out. Jaiswal looked rather amused with the decision, and was not happy to have been given LBW for such a low score in the match. He felt that the ball might have missed the leg stump, as it was swinging more towards the inside. With the match being an unofficial one, Jaiswal was unable to challenge the call, due to the unavailability of DRS.

However, he seemed visibly furious, and was initially hesitant to walk back to the dressing room. Jaiswal stood his ground staring at the umpire, refusing to walk out of the crease. He then made a frustrated gesture towards the umpire, before ultimately deciding to reluctantly accept the controversial call that had been made. While walking towards the pavilion, he was even seen gesturing to his teammates.

Replays later suggested that had DRS been in place, the verdict might have gone against Jaiswal any ways, with the ball appearing to crash into the middle stump. Moreover, his reaction to the call, did not stand well with cricketing fans, who criticized the opener for not agreeing with it.

Jaiswal’s dismissal was followed by another wicket for Chris Woakes, as he dismissed India ‘A’ skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran, ending the day by taking three crucial wickets for England Lions.

India ‘A’, after struggling for a while, managed to end their first innings with a score of 340 runs, guided by KL Rahul’s 116-run knock off 168 balls. However, Jaiswal’s early wicket and struggles, does expose India’s top-order fragility, ahead of the crucial five-match Test series against England. Jaiswal has failed to get going in both the first innings of the two unofficial Tests against England Lions.

The 23-year-old is a vital cog in the Indian Test side, especially after Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma recently retired from Test cricket. Jasiwal was India’s best batter during the team’s otherwise forgettable tour of Australia earlier this year, as he ended with a tally of 391 runs in five matches.

Fans react to Yashasvi Jaiswal for his ‘appalling’ behavior towards the umpire, after being given out

Social media users and cricket fans were left dismayed at Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s furious reaction to a controversial dismissal during an India ‘A’ Test match against England Lions. Jaiswal stared at the umpire for a prolonged period, visibly upset by the decision, which he felt was unfair.

Fans shared their reactions, with many of them deeming Jaiswal’s behavior as ‘unsportsman-like’. A few others hilariously noted that the young opener was standing his ground and fuming at the umpire, like he was batting on 99. Indian cricket fans however, backed Jaiswal’s behavior, with many of them even going to claim that England Lions were favoured by the on-field umpires.

The general consensus also alluded to the fact that the ball would have missed leg stump, and that the decision was not in good spirit for the India ‘A’ side. Critics however, claimed that Yashasvi Jaiswal should be punished for his visible show of dissent, against the umpire.
