The Shedeur Sanders fever reached the WNBA on Saturday. Indiana star Caitlin Clark missed her rematch against Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky but created waves by giving a shoutout to the Cleveland Browns rookie.
Despite recovering from a quad injury, Clark looked like her usual self. Right before entering the locker room, the Fever guard flashed her left hand and mimicked Sanders’ trademark watch celebration.

Sanders popularized the flashing-the-watch celebration in his final season with the Colorado Buffaloes. It was the 23-year-old’s go-to method of celebrating a victory or taunting his adversaries.
Clark is a Kansas City Chiefs fan and last year attended a few games. She and Taylor Swift sat next to each other in the VIP suite, cheering on Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
[Taylor Swift] loves the Chiefs just as much as I do. I’m talking football with her. She loved it, and just like her passion, and honestly, probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever been around.

Clark also shares a link with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Both studied at Iowa State University and represented the Iowa Hawkeyes in football and basketball, respectively.
They hardly ever met each other in college, but shared a common acquaintance. Clark’s brother, Blake, backed up Purdy at Iowa State, as per NBC Sports Bay Area.

ESPN insider claims media is overhyping Shedeur Sanders
Sanders isn’t one to run away from challenges, but breaking into the Browns’ starting roster is easier said than done. A section of eyewitness accounts praised the former Colorado quarterback’s progress in the training camp.

Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy revealed Sanders looked head and shoulders above the competition in the locker room.
The whispers over there basically are, ‘Hey man, [Shedeur] looks like the best quarterback here. He’s young, he’s gotta learn the experience part. Fifth rounder, so we got to make him earn it. But the truth is, he’s the best quarterback.
LeSean McCoy said on FS1’s The Facility
However, others feel it’s too early to pass judgment. Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland urged the media pundits to temper their over-hype of Sanders.
The media are doing him a disservice by over-inflating where he’s at right now. He’s a developmental quarterback, just like Dillon Gabriel is. He’s not a franchise quarterback.
Tony Grossi said via Sports Illustrated
Grossi’s assessment isn’t entirely wrong, considering the Browns’ infamously choppy history with quarterback development. According to reports, 40 different quarterbacks have tried their luck as the starting quarterback in Cleveland since 1999, including players such as Johnny Manziel and Baker Mayfield.
So, it’s better to wait and avoid jumping to conclusions. There’s no question that Sanders has an abundance of talent. He dominated the college scene at both Jackson State and Colorado.

Sanders played 50 games in four years of college football. He threw 1263 completions for 14327 yards (70.1 completion percentage), an average of 7.9 yards per throw, 134 passing touchdowns, and only 27 interceptions.
In 2024, Sanders bagged the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Big 12 Offensive Player Award and made it into the Second Team All-American. To honor Sanders’ legacy and contributions to the school, Colorado retired his number 2, along with Travis Hunter’s number 12 jerseys.
