Known for his dazzling plays on the court, Kyrie Irving is back in the spotlight—this time for a display of loyalty and friendship rather than athletic brilliance. Despite the Dallas Mavericks missing the postseason, Irving remains active in the NBA community, taking to social media to publicly support his friend and fellow New Jersey native, Karl-Anthony Towns.

Irving isn’t keeping quiet while his friend vents on the internet. In a Twitch video, the Mavericks player stood up for KAT, who has been the focus of constant online harassment in recent weeks. The big man for the Knicks has endured it everything, from uncomfortable videos to memes, and Kyrie has had enough.

KAT has been ridiculed on social media for his speech patterns and on-court demeanor. To add to the jokes, fans have referred to him as “zesty,” accused him of being “funny,” and shared videos of his reactions during games.

Y’all gotta stop making fun of my brother KAT… I’m letting y’all know, if you repost that s**t again and you meme him up, I’m attacking you. Not like that physically... Y’all don’t know what it’s like growing up in Jersey and have all of these cultures…I don’t agree all the time when he be changin up his tone (laughs) but…he’s a man, he’s my brother and I protect him.

Kyrie Irving said on his stream

After the Knicks were eliminated from the playoffs, the trolling just got worse, resulting in even more memes and jeering. On his feed, Kyrie aimed it. He warned supporters that he would not tolerate any more jokes or reposts regarding KAT.

Because of their similar upbringings and life experiences, Irving and Towns have a camaraderie that goes beyond professional athletics. Both of them are from New Jersey, and although their team affiliations are always changing, their friendship has remained steady. When Irving streamed on Twitch, this support was evident.

NBA Insider shed some light on a possible reunion between Karl-Anthony Towns and Chris Finch

Just moments after losing against the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals, the New York Knicks decided to sack their head coach, Tom Thibodeau. This led to various questions regarding his replacement, with the Minnesota Timberwolves’ HC Chris Finch being on the Knicks’ radar. This would lead to a reunion between KAT and Finch.

However, it seems that would not be the case. ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that the New York Knicks had asked to talk with Houston Rockets coach Ime Udoka and Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch. Naturally, the goal was to determine if either would be open to joining a different team. Unfortunately, the Knicks’ plea was turned down by both teams.

The team will now approach other franchises and ask for their consent. This is undoubtedly bad news for KAT. After all, Finch and Karl-Anthony Towns would have been on the same team once more if they had been acquired. Now, the Knicks will move on to other candidates. One thing is certain: replacing a coach like Thibodeau won’t be an easy task for the Knicks.

Chris Finch NOT the only coach the Knicks are interested in ahead of the new season

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Dallas Mavericks will not permit head coach Jason Kidd to conduct interviews with the New York Knicks for their vacant head coaching position. As per Charania, the Knicks have not yet requested an interview with Kidd as of Tuesday night, but the Mavericks will decline their request if they do.

A strange narrative that has persisted for nearly a week is finally put to rest by this. Almost all reliable NBA reporters quickly threw Kidd’s name into the rumor mill after the Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau last week. Ime Udoka of the Rockets was also a target for the Knicks (mentioned above), but the Rockets quickly put an end to that interest through media leaks.
